We've seen a number of interesting accesories (hubs, risers, lights, etc) that match the Mini form factor, and work well under the computer, but has anyone seen or heard of an external hard drive that comes in this form?
It just seems to me that the internal drive capacity and speed have been among the more serious sticking points for people, and given that companies are already releasing other accessories that match the mini, that an external hard drive would follow eventually.
Personally, my plan is to get a Mini and use it as a music server, but even if I max out with the 100G internal drive, I'm still about 150G short of what I need. Sure, I could just attach one of my existing drives, but that wouldn't look anywhere near as good, now would it?!
Any news or rumors you may have heard would be greatly appreciated. |

Not matching the mini's profile but Iogear has a few cool Firewire ones. Dude how many songs do you have? |

150GB would roughly be 37,500 songs. Hope they're all legal!

Doesn't necessarily have to be so many songs if they were recorded as FLAC or some other lossless codec...
With storage space so cheap these days, lossless isn't as extravagent as it used to be... |

I only have around 3500 songs on my Ipod and Mac mini. I bought 100-200 of them on iTunes the rest are from....don't tell the RIAA.  |

I'm not an audiophile but I hear little difference between lossless and 192kbps.

Inexpensive disk space is precisely why I decided to go lossless, and in some cases, wav. Probably about six or seven hundred cds are digitized at this point. I run a record label, so 1) I have access to a lot of music, and 2) the stuff on our label needs to be kept at top quality. And these files always get played on a proper stereo - I keep 192 versions on my 40G ipod.
Those Iogear drives are nice. I'm not familiar with their products, though. Are they reliable? I'm currently using the LaCie d2, which doesn't look bad and works great. But I am a slave to fashion - someone has to hurry up and make a Mac Mini formfactor external drive! |

Iogear products are great but their support is average at best. "someone has to hurry up and make a Mac Mini formfactor external drive!" OHHH that would be sweet!

Well, I suppose anything is possible... Our bands are primarily hardcore, punk, and street rock bands; occasionally found on MTV2 or Headbangers Ball, but definitely NOT the FM dial! Some of our bigger name bands include Madball, Sheer Terror, Blood For Blood, Slapshot, and Fordirelifesake.
