Anybody any speculation on how long it will take now? It doesn't say in the article, but I hope soon...

I'm always Mr. Skeptical when it comes to rumors, however I do appreciate this article is pointing to Intel's phasing out of Core 2 Duo Socket M chips. I had a feeling that dwindling supply and high prices would be what would force Apple to move the Mini to its next revision.

However, like usual, this is just a rumor. Until it's on Apple.com or out of Steve Jobs mouth, it's not confirmed (though I am hoping this is accurate).

Well it's nice they are updated the Mini finally (if the rumors are true)...at least bring it up to the standard Macbook level.

My guess though is the older 2.0Ghz will still be a bit faster (more cache), unless the faster bus on the new one makes up the difference...

The do seem to be dumping stock of Mini's and iMacs. The Refurb store now has a lot of Limited Time iMacs for sale.

On the rumor front, how about a mini mini.

A mini with the same thought process applied to it that they did with the Air. So imagine the mini with similar logic board and processors from the air, and without a superdrive or combo drive.

Now that thing would be tiny Cool

I always take these rumors with a grain of salt. That being said, I had a feeling that Apple was going to keep the Mac mini around. I just can't wait to buy a second one for dedicated HTPC.

I'm planning on buying a new Mac mini when they come out and putting this one on eBay. I just pray the new models have 802.11n. I'm so ready to switch my router to 802.11n only @ 5 GHz mode. Smile

I really hope this rumor comes true. I am ready to purchase my second mac. I already have an Apple keyboard and HP monitor that I use for my MacBook so a Mac mini would be right at home.

Long live the mini

I'm getting a 42" LCD TV Wednesday evening (that's only about 72 hours away now) and thus I want to get a mac mini at some point to use as a htpc. The problem is I only want to spend about 6-7 hundred dollars to get a machine far better than the current high end mac mini that costs over 1100 AUD. I hope the update is good and comes with a significant price drop.

I want 802.11n, superdrive in low end model and at least 2GB RAM.

I would also like to see Apple release some less expensive Cinema displays with iSight cams when the new Mac minis come out. It seems like they've forgotten about displays as well.

I would speculate that we will see reports of inventory updates a couple of days prior to the release of the new Mini. That said, now would be a good time to take advantage of all the sales on current generation iMacs and Minis.
EDIT: Here's what I expect the new Mini to be like:

Top model:
2.4GHz C2D Penryn
up to 4GB memory

120-250GB SATA1 5400 2.5"
Combo or Super Drive
GMAX3100 w/144MB DDR2 SDRAM (shared with main memory)
DVI out
802.11n
Gigabit Ethernet
Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
4 USB 2.0 ports
1 FW400 port

I'm guessing this stuff based on past updates and the current MacBook specs.

i really hope this one is true Wink

its taken months to get the money for my mac, and now its just sitting there, somehow im managing to wait for the update Sad

spare me from the pain steve, release them tomorow!

also, has anyone got any experience of running logic express on the mac mini? its almost bearable on my 500mhz imac, so im hoping the mac mini will blow it away, but does anyone have any first hand experience of using it?

thanks.

I think the mini gets a lot of people interested in Apple computers. I was first tempted by a mac back when the mini was first announced, it took me a whole 2 years to get my first and current mac but the mini was the bait that lured me in.

I know everyone is talking about Penryn, 802.11 and Intel X3100, but what about cosmetic changes? Does anyone see anything happening in that department? I think it would be cool if they changed the top and back from white to black. That would be an easy change.
