Roxio Announces Toast 9 Titanium
Monday, March 17, 2008

Roxio today announced the release of Toast 9 Titanium, a new version of its disc burning software for Mac OS X. Toast 9 allows consumers to record high-definition content from high-definition (HD) camcorders and favorite HD programming from TiVo DVRs and Elgato's EyeTV devices to Blu-ray Disc. Users also have the option to burn HD video and slide shows on standard DVDs. For on-the-go entertainment, Toast 9 introduces Roxio Streamer. Streamer allows users to stream video content stored on their home Mac to a Wi-Fi connected iPhone or iPod Touch or any Internet connected Mac or PC. Toast 9 also offers the ability to capture streaming audio for recording Internet radio.
Toast 9 Titanium is available for $99.99 ($79.99 for previous owners). The High Definition/Blu-ray Disc (HD/BD) plug-in, which is needed to author BD video is sold separately for $19.99. It is available free for those who purchase Toast 9 online through April 13, 2008.

I can't wait to try this. It now claims to do conversions (with presets) for the Apple TV and iPhone. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

I use Toast almost daily, but I think Roxio needs to do a little better with their upgrade pricing. I just don't feel compelled to upgrade at $80 bucks. So it looks like I'll be sticking with Toast 8 for a while. At least until I get a Blu-ray drive down the line. And by then, Toast 11 or 12 will probably be the latest and greatest.

Agreed. The primary reasons I upgraded from 6 to 7 and now to 8 is because I got a $39 or less deal at Macworld, or an Amazon special. I don't think I'd be paying $80 per upgrade every 1.5 years for the latest and greatest. The changes just aren't _that_ compelling for me. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

Good on Roxio for keeping up to date. It seems to me like ver 8 hasn't been out all that long though.

The streaming stuff sounds cool. I just wish they offered a trial version to give it a look over. I'm sitting with the basic version that came with my EyeTV for now. I would assume this version entitles me to the special upgrade price, right?

I will probably stay with 8.03 for awhile. I agree, the upgrade price is a bit steep. I use Toast a lot and I also use CD SpinDoctor which is included with Toast Titanium, to record audio. I agree that the changes are not enough to make me upgrade now. _________________ 2.5 GHZ i5 Mac Minu 8Gb Ram
