They would make great Linux machines. I would any version of Linux that works for the G3, YellowDog, Ubuntu or whatever. You can then do network programming, show the endianness difference between platforms, that sort of thing.

Find a copy of Myth II and run 10 network installs and one full install and have at it like it's 1999!

I have had Myth III-Exile on my G3 for a couple of years and have not as yet solved it. It is a nice game.

Personally, I think that Myth I and II are superior to III in terms of gameplay and storyline since Bungie was directly involved. However, Myth III definitely stands out in graphic quality, as it was fully 3D, not sprite/3D like the previous two.

I think the graphics are what makes Myst III. When I first got it I didn't have but, I think, 128 mb of memory Shocked in the G3. After I filled the memory banks to the max and "assigned" a good sized chunk to the game; the motion was almost so fluid as to make one dizzy. My old G3 is still going strong and, even though the way you had to do the memory seems rather quaint, it is closing in on 10 years old. That's something.

I think we managed to confuse Myth with Myst.

Both are good games, but completely different Smile

I believe you are correct. Apparently, my attention span, isn't what it used to be. I wonder if a cigar would help?

Thanks. HaHa, I don't really smoke cigars. I just thought you were trying to pitch it in your posts. I did try a hookah at a hookah bar in Chicago last month, and I really liked it. Today I was thinking about trying a pipe. Never cared much for cigars tho.

There are several great thing's you can do with the imac g3.

Let me give you a list..

1. a itunes server

2. a imac network to teach networking and software use on a mac

3. a imac upgrade class teach a bunch of your students how to upgrade a
computer give them these challenges

1. take the computer apart completly and place it back together see how many run and how many fail

2. upgrade the computer without instructions see if they can do a successfull upgrade without instructions

4. identify the parts of the computer.

5. build a open source network for gaming this will introduce your class to networking with the macintosh and how to set up gaming networks

There are ton's of open source games that run on the g3

battle for wesnoth is a good one for networking practice.

There is just o much you can do it is insane.
