According to the Apple site, the Mac system requirements for the iPod Touch are OS X 10.4.10 or later and iTunes 7.6 or later. So you're either going to have to buy a copy of Tiger or a copy of Leopard and install it on your Mini for it to work with an iPod Touch. And I think you'll need more than 256MB to run Leopard.

if i buy a copy of leopard - it's not likely that my mini (3 years old) can handle the requirements, right?

It will, but you're gonna have to upgrade the ram - 256MB isn't going to be enough. 1GB is probably your best bet.

I know, it's like a treadmill isn't it? Still, the memory upgrade for a three year old machine shouldn't cost too much, and all of your programs will get the benefit. But the OS upgrade is still pricey, if you were perfectly happy with Panther.

Glad to help!

I have a new/used G4-1.25 w/OS X 10.3
I went to a Mac reseller that had an 'upgrade' CD for 10.3 to 10.4 !
They say this is rare but existed before Tiger was bundled with the Mini.
I'm going to attempt this OS upgrade tonight and let you know if it's true...
256k ram is the minimum requirement. Fortunately I have 512

Good luck, alnvilma. In my experience, a G4 running Tiger is more responsive than when it was running Panther.

Why not upgrade to 2 GB memory? It makes a difference. Can a first gen Mini handle 2 GB or maximum 1 GB ?

^ Spawelek's Mini is a G4 with just one memory slot, so 1GB is the max.

I concur, but as I have noted elsewhere many times, Leopard and the G4 Mini just don't seem to get along very well. I would, then, recommend a means of upgrading the G4 Mini to Tiger... even if it means waiting for something to be mailed to you.

I upgraded my G4 from 10.3 to 10.4 without any issues...the g4 mini can only handle 1gb of desktop ram, only one slot.

Do you think that it's quicker?
