|
|
I have 3 computers:
1 vista : desktop connected to the router
1 xp : laptop wireless
1 osx 10 : mac mini wireless
My vista and xp machine work just fine with each other but I cant for the life of me figure out my mac. I have the mac set up for file sharing and it wont show the shard folders.
Where can I change my workgroup name on my mac? or is there a better way to go about this?
Thanks |

Under system preferences go to sharing. Have you enabled file sharing by checking the box? _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5

| After enabling file sharing you'll need to go into the options section and check the smb setting. |

Leopard:
System Preferences > Network > Select Airport or Ethernet > Advanced > WINS > Workgroup.
Tiger:
Applications > Utilities > Directory Access
Unlock the lock, double click SMB/CIS on the list, and enter you new workgroup. |

put in your username and password, the username and password you use when you boot that windows pc. You can tell it to save the password to the keychain. Then you should be able to see the windows share from your mini.
When I do it i go to finder and then network. You wait a moment and then it will show you the windows machines. When you click on one of them it will ask you for the username/password and if you get that right, there will be a dropdown of the shares on the pc. That''s the way mine works on Tiger.
I shared a folder on the mini once so I'm no expert at it. I backup my mac stuff to a windows server here at home so I really have no reason to share out a folder on the mac. _________________ Mac Mini 1.83MHZ Intel Core Duo 2G 80Gig HD
