Apple Releases iTunes 7.6.1
Thursday, February 21, 2008
Posted by: Glenn

Apple has released iTunes 7.6.1 via Mac OS X's Software Update utility. According to the company, iTunes 7.6.1 includes several bug fixes and improves compatibility with Apple TV software version 2.0.

Other notes include, "Rent and download your favorite movies with iTunes on your computer or directly to your living room on Apple TV. Enjoy rented movies in sizes up to 720p HD with surround sound on your Apple TV and sizes up to DVD-quality on your computer. Transfer your rented movies from iTunes to your iPod or iPhone and enjoy them on the go.

Also, purchase and download your favorite TV shows, music, and more directly on your Apple TV. Effortlessly transfer purchases made on Apple TV back to your computer with iTunes."

iTunes 7.6.1 weighs in at 44MB, and requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later.

I had some trouble connecting with an Apple TV afterwards, but a reset and removing the AppleTV from the iTunes Preferences appears to have fixed it. Now, can they do something about that fugly main screen? Wink

I don't have an Apple TV, but everything went smoothly for me. I bet they have some stuff in here laying dormant for the SDK. Smile

It seems like most of the iTunes updates over the last year have been about improving compatibility with the iPhone and Apple TV. I would like to see an update with some new features or something. Beyond Cover Flow, it seems like it's been a while since an exciting feature has been added to iTunes. I'm talking beyond content here guys.

The problem with Apple is exactly that. Sometimes they work so hard that I can't even see what they could be adding/improving (aside from speed, memory footprint, etc).

Take the iPod shuffle as an example. IMHO this little player is perfect, what will they do to replace it? (no, I don't need a screen for a few dozen songs).
