I am trying to set up my mini so I can print to my Epson R800 that is connected via USB to my XP Pro machine. I can add the printer fine and the mini sees that it is connected to the XP machine but when I try to print to it I just get "jobs stopped" and it won't print. Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks
Todd

Are you able to create and access a file share on the XP machine? If possible connect the printer direcly to the mini to see if you can print to rule out any driver issues. You may also at that time check to see if you can go from Windows to the mini to print.

Printing to a Windows machine in SAMBA can be a pain. I once had a Lexmark printer that Ii just could not print to from Linux no matter what I tried.

I know this isn't a cure for your SAMBA woes, but I find using a Print Server device to connect the printer to the network is much more reliable than using print shares.

Yes I can share files no problem.

Yeah, I just might go that route. In addition to the XP box and my mini, I have a Win2k laptop, Win NT desktop (for work,) and Linux box and at times I need to print from all of them. The print server would make that a breeze.

Thanks for the reply!

I am having the same problem with an HP LaserJet...

No mater what driver I used (using GIMP now) it prints out sheets in "code", either from goign via sharing or LPR PostScript modes.

My next option is using a wirless print server, but I don't want to shell out the $$$ if it's going to do the same.... Confused

Print servers can be set up as a local port on the mini and print directlyto the printer, so you won't have the same issues. Just make sure the print server is compatible with the printer. I have been using print servers with HP printers for a long time without troubles.

At home I used this one. I would recommend a wired server if possible and just add an ethernet switch if more ports are needed.

You may also want to look at Apple's Bonjour for Windows.
