|

Installed a brand new Pioneer DVR-K05 8X Dual Layer Slim DVD±RW Drive into my mac mini last night. Physical installation went well but I am unable to get the drive to recognize ANY DVD disk either blank, +R, -R, DL, store bought movie, etc. The drive only recognizes CDR media at the moment. I checked the profiler and it says it supports all dvd types other than ram and something about burning unsupported.
I've seen a few bits of into about needing to download a small utility but not sure if that will fix the disc reading problem.
I'm mac newb so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks alot!

Download PatchBurn and see if that helps. I would say its defective because its odd that it would only support half of what it should. It's probably a cracked lens on the DVD lens or however the special DVD part works is broken. _________________ Computer Engineer

yeah, I was starting to lean towards it being defective. I did install patchburn with no luck. Looks like I'll be sending it back!
Thanks,

That's definitely a defective drive. My K05 recognized all media formats without any problem even before Patchburn. _________________ Mac since '86

That's good to hear, just wanted to make sure I exhausted all possibilities before returning the drive. Looking forward to a replacement. |

Just installed a DVR-K05 today for my friend's mini and it worked with all formats right away. Toast 6 Platnium was a bit slow on burning, but I don't think my friend had configured the options correctly.
Can't wait till I get one. I've got a few things I need to do.
Of course, the DVD drive is just one of a few things I want.
- bigger internal hard drive
- AP/BT
- 1gb of RAM (would prefer to have 2gb, but there are no non-ECC DIMMs certified for Apple just yet)
Anyway, let us know when you get the drive replaced. _________________ Chilly

Got a new drive installed earlier this week and it worked like a charm. Glad it was just defective hardware. Burned DVD+R and -R with no problems thus far. Thanks for the input guys! |

What kind of burn speeds are you getting from the drive? _________________ Chilly
