Sapphire Browser for Front Row

The Sapphire Browser Beta 4 has been the talk of the Mac mini HTPC forum for the last few days. What's the big deal? It's basically one of the first plug-ins for Front Row 2.0. It was originally created for the Apple TV, but the developer just added compatibility for Leopard in the latest release. So what does the Sapphire Browser actually do? It will download all the metadata and cover art for your TV Shows and Movies in Front Row. This will turn your boring file lists into something exciting to look at and take some of the hassles out of managing your media collection. You can see all of the release notes for the new version here. I would suggest that you give it a look. The Sapphire Browser works well and installation is a breeze.

This looks amazing! Messing about with a Preview.jpg before etc looked far too time consuming... I can't wait to try this out on my Mini when it arrives! |

I've been jealous of this app because I can't install it on my apple tv due to my inability to hack it. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

You never got in!?!?!
I haven't had the chance to install Sapphire on my Mac mini yet. I had some trouble running it on my Apple TV though. It took forever to get artwork and data when new files were added. This kinda sorta made it annoying to use. I wonder if this process goes any faster now or with the more powerful mini? |

I still can't get it to work. It always starts checking my files with /root first!!! I let it go for about an hour, came back and it was checking my *&^% Application folder!!!
What am I to do? I've tried checking the ones I want it to check, I've tried un checking the ones I want it to check... either way... same result...

Ben Tex.....sorry to say but no. The attempted modification of the Apple TV did frustrate me to no end though. I'm pretty sure a chimp could do it. I sir, am not as smart as a chimp. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

I have to say, I'm really impressed with Sapphire. It's certainly rough around the edges, but it's really promising. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

I'm know rockit scientsst eetherr.
I think you were trying to go the Patchstick route. Did you ever try taking the hard drive out and putting it in a cheap little IDE enclosure? That might be the best way for you to get-r-done. Once you get the ATVLoader on there, you should be golden. |

You check the ones you want it to skip. After doing so, try existing sapphire and re-enter it to make sure. |

| The only thing I have noticed with some of the movies/tv shows don't always get picked up. One example is Battlestar Galactica Razor. Any suggestions on how to get around this? |

Thanks for the ideas... I have done that several times... one other thing I've noticed is it's reeeaallly slllooowww... Front Row loads fine, once I select Sapphire it takes it's sweet ole' time loading screens etc. Even when I am selecting or unselecting volumes for it to check, it takes it a bit to actually select or deselect it...
Nothing but problems here.... /bummed... _________________ Automotive Digital Marketing
