|
|
Much as I've tried, I can't get my MacBook to connect to the net using the ethernet cable from my broadband modem. Perhaps it's because I still don't know my way around Leopard or perhaps it's because I'm a muppet, but either way, Safari says that it can't download jack.
What I did manage to do was leave the modem connected to the Mini, set-up a 2-machine AirPort network between the Mini and the MB and then get the Mini to share it's internet connection with the MB over the AirPort link. Pretty nifty.
What I wanted to know was the maximum range that this 2-machine network will stretch to. When I tried it before, the two machines were next to each other. Is it worth setting the network up again and walking into a different room with the MacBook? Will the range of the AirPort connection be good enough? _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

I don't know the maximum range, but you should be fine around your home or apartment. Probably enough so that you should password protect the network if you live around a lot of people. I was sharing my Mac mini with an iBook like this for a short time. My wireless router got fried in a thunderstorm and this was a nice option until I could find a replacement. _________________ 14" 1.25GHz G4 iBook (died)

Isn't a standard G card carry a range of about 300 feet? _________________ 1.83 Core Duo

Thanks guys. From what you've said, it sounds as though this is well worth a try and I'll be sure to use the password feature as well. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b
