I would really like to buy one of these Hubs, but Amazon doesn't appear to have any more in stock. 
Does anyone have these in-stock?

I ordered one on Friday, it was 29.99 or so plus 6.75 shipping UPS ground to NC. Delivery date is late this week. CDW wanted close to 9.00 to ship it here.  |

I got mine yesterday. It works fine, no regrets (unlike the stupid Air-Click USB.. what a POS that was). No issues powering my iSight (daisy chained off my 3.5 firewire enclosure) and external 2.5 firewire drive. I'm still using another firewire hub to power everything else, so it's not a complete solution, I could plug my iPod in the front firewire port, or use USB but I like to make things difficult. It does need at least 1 more firewire port in the back.

Yeh. that's actually all I need, but I'd rather it be in the back.
The instructions say:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do not connect any USB or Firewire devices to the Hub until instructed to in step 3 of this installation procedure.
Steps 1 and 2 are "Plug in the USB cable" and "Plug in the Firewire Cable". Which makes sense if it's using the Firewire to make up for the low-power USB. |

Most firewire devices have two ports on them one to connect to the computer and another to daisy chain another device. USB devices rarley ever do that. As for the whole power deal, remember not all USB devices use the power from the bus. Read more in this thread.
I got mine from CDW and love the ports in the front. As for hooking it up I plugged everything in and fired it up but I had to re-set the boot drive to my external as it was now on a different bus.

That's all your gaining with the miniStack too. Whats with these people only putting 2 usable firewire ports on these things?

Weather or not the still do it Apple and TI charged a royalty for every FireWire port on a device, USB has no royalty. USB is also cheaper to produce so cost may be a major issue.
Another reason is that most FireWire devices, unlike most USB, have a daisy chain port. With 2 ports I can connect the 4 devices that I have at the same time due to 2 of them having daisy chain ports on them. Normaly I only use one port.

Good: works fine, removed dangling un-powered hub from back of mini.
Bad: bottom has good traction, top slippery, mini wants to slide around. The little LED is annoyingly bright.
Ugly: Firewire port on the front means I now have an ugly black cable permanently snaking out of the front of it. A fourth FW port or putting all FW ports on the back would have been better for permanently fixed hardware. |

You probably have some dust or grit on the bottom of the mini try wiping it off. Mine sticks like glue.

The FireWire and USB port on the front are it's nicest feature, plugging my iPod or memory stick in the back was barbaric. How many fireWire devices do you have? Don't any of them have an extra port?
