I got mine last night from MacMall. I tried plugging my 512MB iPod Shuffle into the front and back USB ports and it doesn't work unless Firewire is connected in the back. Is this normal???? I didn't even bother reading the manual and accidentally threw it away. Laughing

Resuna must have been right when he said the Hub is getting its power from Firewire.

You need to hook up both to use both nad iit is powered through the firewire port. Check this thread for more info.

Thanks for the info. I really like the looks of this hub and the two-tone look with the Mac mini. It seems well made and sturdy like other have noted. Well worth the $30. Don't hear any noises coming from the hub at all.

If you hear a high frequency noise coming from the hub that is probably due to a switching power supply. I believe fireware uses 12 volts but USB requires 5 volts, so they must convert down from 12 to 5. A properly designed and manufactured switching power supply should be essentially quiet, I suspect something is loose and is vibrating at a sub-harmonic of the switching frequency.
