OpaqueMenuBar 1.0 Released
Monday, October 29, 2007
Posted by: Charles
It seems like the semitransparent menu bar in Leopard is a love it or hate it thing. Well, we have some good news for those of you that hate it out there. Eternal Storms Software has released OpaqueMenuBar 1.0, a free little application that allows Mac users to turn off the semitransparent menu bar effect in Leopard. You will not be able to see through the menu bar with it enabled. To revert back to the semitransparent menu bar, you just need to quit the application from Activity Monitor or open Terminal and type "killall OpaqueMenuBar" without the quotes and press enter. OpaqueMenuBar requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The download weighs in at 242KB.

OMG, it works!
I'm a hater of the opaque menu bar. The utility has only been running for a minute or two since I've posted this. If it holds out, I've got to make a donation.
I'm a happy Leopard camper now. _________________ 1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo + 1GB Ram + 80GB HD + TripLite B022-002-KT-R KVM + Bose Roommate II Speakers (circa 1990)

How do I uninstall OpaqueMenuBar?
First, you have to quit it. Since it hasn’t got an icon in the Dock, there are two ways to do that:
First: Activity Monitor in /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor. Open it up and select OpaqueMenuBar in the list. Then press the quit button.
Second: Terminal in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal. type “killall OpaqueMenuBar” without the quotes and press enter.
After that, you can delete the application. To revert the desktop, go to the desktop settings in the System Preferences. _________________ 1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo + 1GB Ram + 80GB HD + TripLite B022-002-KT-R KVM + Bose Roommate II Speakers (circa 1990)

If you hate the Opaque menu bar which would indicate you prefer Leopards Transparent menu, then why do you want to pay for it?

I think he confused the definition of opaque with transparent (actually, the menu bar is translucent, if we want to be even more accurate). _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

You guys are to much. Don't pick on an old Windows guy. I have enough of a time dealing with colors like mauve and the like. Artsi I am not. _________________ 1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo + 1GB Ram + 80GB HD + TripLite B022-002-KT-R KVM + Bose Roommate II Speakers (circa 1990)

I like the new menubar. It blends well into the desktop and adds some pizzazz. Now who wouldn't like that? |

I'm also a fan of the new menu bar. It might be a tad annoying with light backgrounds, but with darker ones it's practically opaque. Apple probably should have given us an option to decide either way though. Maybe they'll slip one in a future update or something. It's still early in the Leopard game. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)
