Power Mac G5 styled case for Mac mini
Thursday August 4, 2005

Out of Japan comes the Mon maccom And Mac mini. The And Mac mini is a really cool looking Power Mac G5 styled case for the Apple Mac mini. The case has an open slot for the optical drive and open back for easy access to the ports and power button. Their website states the And Mac mini is still in a "trial manufacturing stage" at this time. Mon macccom makes similar Power Mac G5 cases for the Apple G4 Cube and iPod. Mon maccom has also designed an extension piece for their G4 Cube case called the And Mac mini Arm (pictured below). The Mac mini ARM allows the Mac mini to be stacked on top of the case. Unfortunately these products are not available in the United States, but we will keep you updated on any new developments with them.

We'd like to thank 123Macmini member retrophonic for the tip!

From what I can tell these really only serve as a rack to hold your existing Mini case. How about a "replacement" case with easy access, built-in hub (including the front ports that everyone seems to want) and room for a 3.5" drive? Wouldn't have to be much bigger than the current Mini if you want to keep the footprint as small as possible. Sort of an AlmostMini. You see plenty of custom cases for PCs. Wouldn't be surprised to see some crop up for the Mini as well.

It would be a very niche market. A device like you describe sounds like a great idea. If you could go another 1 1/2" wide you'd have room to horizontally mount a 3 1/2" hard drive and keep the mini vertical.

i may be pushing it, but i think those cube cases can be easily modified to accommodate the mini mobo, a small power supply, and a 3.5" drive, and still have adequate ventilation.

I wouldn't mind having the small one. I wonder how much it costs?

IMO it looks good! But I also think my Mini looks good by itself so I don't think I'm going to be putting it in a case any time soon.

I guess if you're looking for an interesting way to prop up the mini and save even more desk space then it might be nice. Or if you have G5 PowerMac to put it next to.

I wonder if I can find these on the streets of Tokyo? I'll be in Tokyo for another two weeks. The website for that company is hosted on a free host, so I don't know about that...

You know you can just stand the mini on its side...

TM

PS - I think this looks cool though. That said...yeah - add a hub (with at least one of each port on the front too!) and a fast 3.5 drive and i'm game.

While that would be awesome, I highly doubt that. Apple made everyone sign an NDA and is watching them so they don't do anything with them, not to mention they need to be returned in 10 months.

I read something about someone who put his MM in a PC case and connected some big 3'5 drives to it: http://www.appletalk.com.au/articles/index.php?article=4433 Shocked
