I might be the only one who thinks this, but I find it such a weird experience to go onto eBay and see the machines that were completely unaffordable to me in the 90s, being sold for pocket change... "PowerMac 7600/132 for £4.99? WOW!" |
Johnny, I agree with you, it is amazing. I just saw a Performa 400, which was a consumer (sold in Sears,) version of the LC, on eBay selling for $24.95, which is more than a 100 times less than I paid for the LC alone, with monitor and Apple Laser Writer, it was almost 10 grand. _________________ 2.5 GHZ i5 Mac Minu 8Gb Ram

I think my face just slid off!! Thats crazy money. I was only a wee nipper back then. I remember my family's first computer back in '96 or '97 i think it was, a £2,100 Gateway PC with a 233mhz pentium 2. When you look at today's prices technology is crazy cheap. _________________ MacBook 1.83Ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, OS X 10.6.5

Do you think that Bobaloo and I should set up an Apple Mac Orphanage... ?

Me too!
Talk about love at first sight.
I was dazzled by her cute form, her promise of things to come, the way she smiled provacatively at me.
And then, there was the computer.
That Classic wasn't too bad either !

My first PC was around 1985. It had a 8Mhz processor and a whopping 512k of ram. I can't remember the exact price around £1000-1500 I think. I remember I nearly bought a car instead as it was cheaper _________________ Phil

Thinking about the various Macs we've had over the years, I think we could probably open a Mac old age home.... Besides the LC and the 601s, I had an original G3 tower, beige, a few G3 imacs, G4s... not sure if they would be considered orphans or senior citizens. _________________ 2.5 GHZ i5 Mac Minu 8Gb Ram

My SE is still working, running System 7. I still have all the original disks that came with it. I got rid of a few G3 iMacs and my G3 Tower. I still have the Sawtooth G4 that was originally a 400mhz and now is 1.2Ghz. If only I had another room, I could have set up a Mac Museum. For years I drove around with the LClll in the trunk of my car. I didn't know what to do with it. I finally donated it to a library in Vermont. _________________ 2.5 GHZ i5 Mac Minu 8Gb Ram

Bobaloo, your story reminded me of this great little article posted on Low End Mac about an LCIII that kept coming to the rescue. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

That was some great stuff there, JohnnyBoy. I've donated a few computers over the years. My neighbor who's from England, has 2 kids and I gave them my Snow iMac. If there's a way to recycle and get use out of them, we will find a way. Thanks for those items. _________________ 2.5 GHZ i5 Mac Minu 8Gb Ram
