I don't see a touchscreen/wifi version cutting into iphone sales at all. They'll use most of the same hardware and software as the iphone. And many countries still can't use the iphone. The ipod is a global product. This would be a way to "recycle" existing technology into a dynamite global product Apple can make a killing on. Last time I checked Apple wasn't complaining of poor iPhone sales. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

that's probably true in the US, but in the rest of the world they haven't been released yet.
Personally I'm not to interested in mobile phones, I hardly ever use mine so I can't see me ever buying an iPhone. I have a 5G 30GB Video iPOD and that serves me well, probably under used as I tend to listen to radio in the car, and iTunes at home so don't often use the iPod as much as I used to. If it broke I would probably buy another one though, but I definitely wouldn't go for an iPhone version. I'd be interested in something in between. An iPOD with the iPhone interface with some PDA type functions, notepad, calendar, mail where you can update on the iPOD and sync to your Mac or PC when you got home. _________________ Phil

But would they admit poor sales? I have a hunch that iPhone sales have slowed down significantly since the initial hype. If I were Apple, I would be hurrying up on the 2G iPhone. Not that I want one or anything. Wink wink, nod nod.

I wouldn't mind having something like that. They could call it the iPod Newton!
I don't know guys. I feel a letdown coming with this event. I'm not sure Apple is ready to put a touchscreen iPod up against the iPhone. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I belive that Iphone SIM lock is going to be released to public sooner or later, and its going to be like any other unit - pay $20 on ebay and get an unlock code....
Ipod with PDA functions? Thats pretty much Blackberry 8800 for you.
Only downside- UI is not really that user friendly. |

And the total cost of ownership might be more. |

I assume the event will show new ipods.
I wish they would improve on the most important feature of an ipod, the sound quality! I use another brand and it sounds so full and smooth, ipods sound harsher and compressed.
it's too bad cause the ipod design and interface are great. |

| I don't know what brand he is talking about, but I've never been blown away with the sound quality of the 5G. I thought the sound quality of my old 3G was better. |

I wasn't aware that people were complaining about the sound quality from the iPods except the new Shuffle. I though they were good, thus the sales of after-market $300 earbuds etc. |

In PC World or PC Magazine (I forget which I get both) there was a chart showing high capacity HDD music/PMP and the 80GB suffers a slightly lower quality than the 30GB but very minute so only a die hard audiophile would notice it. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."
