Finding that once the initial mac osX start-up screen has finished, and selected my profile, that the time from entering my password to having acces to my desktop can be a good five minitues of watching the colour spinner.
Is this an software update problem as I am now using 10.3.9 or something else, and is this something i can fix?
any help?

Hi, from what have you tell. I’ll suggest you upgrade to tiger.
I have experience with 10.3.9 and it did take a little more time (although not as long as you did).
When I switch to tiger, it works faster (about 40s from power on).
Have a nice try.
