The new interface rocks! H.264 rips also seem to be chugging along a little faster with 0.9.0.
My favorite settings:
- Format: MP4
- Codecs: AVC/H.264 Video / AAC Audio
- Encoder: x264 (Main)
- 2-pass encoding
- 2000-2500 kbps average bitrate
- chapter markers selected
That being said, I tend to use the same settings as Curt most of the time. H.264 rips look better, but it's time-consuming to encode them. And yes, that's even with a turbo first pass. |

Tried to download the GUI version, but it says it's a corrupt disk image. So it would appear that I'll need to use the CLI -- or stick with the current version!
I'm still using 10.3.9. |

I know you're running 10.3.9, but did it have a .bz2 suffix? |

The new look Handbrake seems great, I haven't had the chance to try it yet though. I want to be able to burn content from avi or mkv for instance that will play on a DVD player. Any suggestions of good software to use. VisualHub? Thoughts? _________________ _________________

I use VH for converting formats and Toast 8 Titanium for burning.
But this is my process:
- Backup my DVD to an external drive with MTR 3.
- Take the MTR rip (VIDEO_TS folder) on external drive and create a backup DVD with DVD2one or Popcorn 2.
- Take the MTR rip (VIDEO_TS folder) once again and rip it with HandBrake to MPEG-4. I then move this file to another external drive.
- Let computer cool down. |

This update is heaps awesome!
* Matroska (MKV) support! .avi is such an old container with all kinds of quirks and limitations, yet the alternatives (.ogm, .mp4) were even more restrictive. .mkv is the modern format that's the most flexible.
* DTS passthrough; nice to finally be able to hear that.
* x264 options provided graphically, with mouseover explanations! (finally trellis, etc. no more reason to use xvid now unless you have a legacy target platform.)
* HDTV (i.e. transport stream / .ts) support! (srsly, omg!!!) I can't wait to see how this turns out; an easy way to transcode all my EyeTV captures -- including cropping for letterboxed shows aired on 480p channels!
I'm looking forward to chapter marks being fixed/working in .mkv with 0.9.1. _________________

I'm looking forward to that as well. I wonder how long it will take for them to get 0.9.1 out? |
