Agh!!
I just bought a mini last week for $599 (the 1.66 model with 60 GB HD).
AND NOW THEY UPGRADE !!!! WAAAAAA
Should I return it (14 day return policy - but opened and plugged in - so I guess I've got the 10% restocking fee?)?
I bought it online, but may be I can return it to a local MAC store and get the upgrade?
Anybody have any ideas?
PS:
I swapped out the memory from 512 to 2 GB (but did a good job so they wouldn't know and I can swap it back). _________________ Enjoy Life!

I think this was a fair updated - I'm sure we all wanted more, but this _is_ Apple's "entry level" computer, so I guess we have to be realistic. Had they bumped the video card, it would definitely take sales away from iMacs and MacBooks.
I'm wondering if the Mini will go the way of the Cube come the time to release Leopard - I sure hope not. It's one great little machine. |

MacBook has priority on GPU.
Also, people you're missing the point that it's C2D, something that people have asked for over GPU since it is an economy model and it was only 32-bit system left in line. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

That wouldn't make sense that they would update it and then disco it a couple of months later. I am wondering more if it will be updated again either for Tiger (doubt it) or MacWorld or if they come out with an entirely new machine by MacWorld. If not, I'm definitely getting one of these for my permanent htpc. |

I will be switching next paycheck. That is from a G4 mini to the new 1.83GHz model. Next up on deck, a Leopard family pack. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| So does anyone know if they are the exact same specs, just faster CPU? I wonder how much it would cost to do the upgrade myself.... |

I couldn't wait and purchased the low-end Intel Mini back in June. Although it would have been nicer to get one of the refreshed models, I don't regret my purchase as I already planned to do my own upgrades. I threw in a 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, and a 160GB HD. I wanted to be sure it would be the first and last time I would have to crack open the case. While I wouldn't categorize the upgrades as difficult, I would say it requires your undivided attention to detail. Since I have plenty of past experience with desktop and laptop upgrades, I felt confident enough.
The only downside is breaking the warranty. I figured if anything were to go wrong, it would happen outside of the warranty period anyway and I would be able to repair it on my own...assuming it is not on the board level. |

Well, since I waited starting Januari, I can wait until Leopard comes out. Who knows, they might throw in 802.11n by then. Anyway, I'm still wondering, will it be the 1.83 or the 2.0 model. I own a DVD-DL burner already, don't really need it in the 2.0, but a faster processor and bigger disc is nice. 2 Gb RAM would be nice same as a 7200 rpm hd! _________________ ___________________Jim©

No, the base memory is now 1 GB, and the hard drive sizes also went up. Also, the 2.0 GHz CPU has twice the cache of the 1.83 GHz CPU.

This seems to be a sensible time to buy for those that are doing the Leopard Family Pack upgrade.
I personally only have 1 G4 mini and I'll likely sell it when I buy a new machine so a family pack is out of the question.
I'm going to hold tight until Leopard is released before I make a purchase decision. I'm sure we will see a lot of people buying now and others that can hold tight for 2-3 more months.
For those of you that don't know Apple well. Don't expect upgrades to the consumer product line for a minimum of 6 more months (possibly longer). |

What is this "family pack" you speak of and where can it be procured? |
