Wednesday, July 11, 2007
Posted by: Glenn
Apple has released iTunes 7.3.1 and QuickTime 7.2 via Mac OS X's Software Update utility and on the Web. According to the company, iTunes 7.3.1 addresses a minor problem with iTunes 7.3 accessing the iTunes Library. QuickTime 7.2 addresses critical security issues and delivers support for full screen viewing in the QuickTime Player, updates to the H.264 codec, and numerous bug fixes. It is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users.

After the 10.4.10 fiasco I'm not even touching these for at least a week. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

I grabbed it. Maybe adding full screen support in QT early is an apology for 10.4.10. I need to test some files now with Perian. I hope it didn't break anything. |

I noticed that if you have Quicktime Pro and do the update; you will have to re-purchase Pro. I am going to pass on these. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2

I have always purchased QT Pro, but its nice to see them finally add FS to the player. It was long overdue and silly. I really thought they would hold off until Leopard though. I guess there is only 299 reasons to buy it now. |

| These are pretty big for minor updates, some 80 odd mb. Why can't an update be just that and not the whole application. |

The iTunes update is pretty average in size, but QuickTime is larger than some of the other recent updates. It also sounds a little more substantial. I will probably wait a day or so to apply them. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

Check out this article.

This is why I have been more hesitant to install these lately. 10.4.10 is the only one I jumped on this year instead of waiting. And it bit me in the butt USB audio wise. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

Yikes... thanks for the warning, TM! I downloaded both iTunes and QT updates, but havn't installed them yet. Lol... dont know if I should.
I dont know if you remember, but when 10.4.10 came out, I posted that I wasnt going to update from 10.4.9 because of everyones complaints about it. If it aint broke, dont break it. Well, after a week, I decided to give it a go. I lost my USB connectivity ot my Miglia Tv Micro tuner and got the snap crackly pops. I ended up doing an archive reinstall of OS X, which I am now more familiar with than ever. But, I really dont want to have to do it again anytime soon. Plus, my Miglia never fully recovered, since I still get glitches in my live tv window now, which never happened beofre the 10.4.10 update.
Right now, iTunes and QT are working perfectly in their current state. I honestly see no reason to update, other than to keep up with the Jones's.
I think I will now trash my freshly downloaded uninstalled itunes and QT updates before I get myself into trouble. I dont want to spend another weekend installing OS X again.
Cheers! |

I think 10.4.10 taught us all again that it might be better slow down. The old saying, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." sort of comes to mind. Or maybe it goes like this. |

There are some very nasty threads on the Apple forums regarding these updates.

I am at 10.4.9 due to the Firewire audio interface problem. As someone in the posts above said, "If it ain't broke...." I am content to stay here for a while. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2

I came back from vacation and caught the Rosetta bug after installing QT 7.2. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

This sounds like typical Microsoft behavior; I recently revamped the software on my laptop. I updated to the very latest drivers including the one for the wireless adapter. Wireless stopped working, so I referred to the old drivers and it works great. _________________

The last few updates have been stinkers. It is summer though, so I'll take it easy on the lads at Apple. It's hard for me to stay focused on work too. And I don't have a free iPhone to distract me. On the bright side, FS is working great. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini
