NewerTech today announced the miniStack v3, a 'Quad Interface' powered hub storage solution with up to 1.0TB of storage capacity, for Plug n' Play ease of use with any Mac or PC with an available FireWire 800/400, USB 2.0, or eSATA port. With an ergonomically unique rear and side port configuration of one eSATA, two FireWire 800, one FireWire 400, and three USB 2.0 ports, miniStack v3 lets users connect multiple desktop digital accessories like scanners, printers, memory card readers, digital cameras, and iPods simultaneously and clutter-free. Its port flexibility and compact design also makes miniStack v3 an ideal portable external hard drive storage solution to move among multiple systems.
The miniStack v3 is available in seven pre-configured 7200RPM solutions, from 160GB to 1.0TB, priced starting at $169.99. An 'Add Your Own Hard Drive' kit is priced at $119.99.
miniStack V3 Features Include:

| Seems like quite the machine. I'm glad I got the LaCie mini even though it doesn't have the best specs. |

Hmm - FW800 and eSATA. Do they know something about the mini that we don't?

Cool if you have a spare SATA drive, but they're kind of pricey. The MiniStack V2 kits sold for $50 less.

Wow these things are shipping with all kinds of different drives depending on which model you get. Seagate, Maxtor on the 500Gb, WD in the 750, and a Hitachi in the 1TB.

Let's hope this model is truely whisper quiet. "Quiet" seems to be a feature most people look for when buying external drives.
Being that it only has 1 firewire 400 port my question is...
can you daisy chain another firewire 400 device to this drive? |

That's what I'm hoping for, whisper-quiet operation. Grab a Mini and stack it with a couple terabyte MiniStacks and you've got an instant home file server. As far as daisy chaining Firewire 400 devices, I would imagine that you could do that via an adapter cable (FW800 is backwards compatible with FW400). |

I don't think it says anything one way or another. Minis are still being sold today and thereare a large number of minis already sold that are potential customers. An external hard drive is probably the best selling accessory for a mini.
These drives are not mini dependant. They look good next to iMacs and Mac Pros, even PC's  . There are other manufactures that are selling external enclosures in this form factor as well.
The only external drive that I would say is mini specific is the LaCie mini. It has crowns on it to provide airflow between the mini and the drive. It looks a little odd on it's own with the crown sticking out of the top. |

That's the drive I have.
You know, right now here in the Netherlands minis Solo Core are being dumped for prices ranging from 300-450 Euro including tax. It seems to be stock from all over Europe. My guess is: something's going on. I may be wrong.  |

It has the same colors as the Mac mini, which seem to match nearly perfect. It also can be used with the new AirPort Extreme, which also fits perfectly with the crowns on top.
I'm sure you already knew this, but I was just pointing out the obvious. |

| I think most of the Mac mini style enclosures (including the LaCie minis) would look good on their own. Personally, I'm not a big fan of stacking because of the heat transfer. I guess those crowns on the LaCie mini eliminate most of that transfer though. |
