I bought a refurbished 40GB ATV from Apple last week and upgraded it to 160GB last night. I was sort of worried about ruining the rubber pad on the bottom during the upgrade, so I only pulled back the back far enough to access all of the screws. Even going back this far, left the pad flopping around. It wouldn't stick back down at all. So I decided to take a hairdryer and lightly heat it up to reactivate the adhesive. After evenly heating it up, the pad is sticking back down as well as it did from the factory. I don't know of this is a known way of doing reapplying the pad, but it works great. It should at least save you the money of buying a can of spray adhesive.

I tried putting some books on top of mine for a few days after upgrading it. I thought the glue had some stick/tack left to it. Unfortunately, it never really held. It was just laying there. This wasn't all bad though. I recently had to open it back up after the 1.1 update. I had to swap out the drives and clone the original again, because it wouldn't update. Maybe I'll try heating it up now like you suggest.
