cant control how to use properly the fast search function..so I can get from A - S etc quickly....
what is the correct way??

Are you talking about the search function on the newer iPods or having the letters "Quick alphabet" pop up when you're scrolling? The letters "Quick alphabet" should automatically pop up after you scroll down or up so far. Going a little faster helps. Once the little letter menu comes up you can slow down. Don't take your finger off the click wheel or it will disappear. I don't know much about the new search function (Apple short changed us early 5G owners), but you can see a demo here:
