I want to hookup my Mac mini with a standard 4:3 32" Sony TV. I'm going to use it part time for an iTunes jukebox. What resolutions will be supported with the DVI to video adapter using s-video? Will I be able to get at least 800x600? I'm also looking for a remote control. Any suggestions?

Okay, I currently have my XP laptop hooked up to my TV using a 4-pin S-Video cable and I'm running at 1024x768. I would think that this would be the same with the Mini. I think that this is the maximum resolution for the S-Video cable, but I'm pretty sure that all computers can output to this, as long as the computer graphics card supports this resolution. The Mini does support this resolution, so I'm thinking you'll be fine.

Are you looking for a remote control for the Mini or the TV? For the Mini I recommend the AirClick, though I have never used it. It has gotten a lot of attention online, and I haven't seen anything bad about it. Maybe someone here actually has one.

I was thinking of getting one, but I'm going to be using my BT cellphone to do everything once I get my stupid wireless kit working (I received it broken, grr).

Thanks! I was hoping to get over 800x600. 1024x768 would be more than enough. Guess I'll go ahead and order the adapter. I'm looking at remotes for the Mac mini to contol iTunes and iDVD if the picture looks good enough. I saw the Airclick and Keyspan Express. Are there any other brands/models? I'm trying to stay under $75.

I would stay with those brands as they're quite high quality and will be worth the money. As I keep saying, always check out eBay; they do sell used things.

Airclick
$38.50 + 3.85 = $42.35

The AirClick seems awefully minimalistic. Last I checked the ATI Remote Wonder has a mac driver (at least the old one, not sure about the remote wonder II). I suppose I could pull mine out of my closet and try to get it work, however i'll be sacrificing my mouse for a few minutes Razz

the only problem with the remote wonder is that it's RF, and I havent had great results with it, although I do have alot of interfering electronics near where i had the reciever.
EDIT: after pulling my remote wonder out of the closet and giving it a test run on the mini, i was very impressed. in fact, I didnt even mind giving up my mouse for a few minutes because i can control the cursor with the remote! the remote wonder is really customizible too. be default, pressing the next/previous buttons wont do anything, but you can set them to always next/previous/play/whatever in iTunes. Oh and the new driver has support for the Remote Wonder II.

As soon as I get my MiniMate, i'll keep this remote plugged in for sure.

The Airclick's remote is a little small and uses RF. You'll get better range with RF. The Keyspan has a nicer remote, but uses infrared. Tuff call!

So what's the range like on the ATI remote? The Airclick's range SUCKS (didn't even make it 25 feet with no walls).
