We are all still assuming that Apple has plans on updating the Mini theres little evidance that says there not going to phase it out. Im tired of waiting for what may or may not come when I get the money (next month) im buying a mini. If it gets dropped i'll use it as long as I can if it gets supported great!I dont see why Apple wouldnt its a easy upgrade but who knows. Personally id like to see a Mini with a better video card and a E-SATA port but im not waiting forever.

Decent read about Apple spreading itself thin.

Yep...took the C2D out of my laptop (put the core duo from the mini back in the laptop of course), grabbed two sticks of RAM and HDD and did the upgrades in about 45 minutes. Not too tough if you know your way around the inside of a computer. |
Was that a Macbook or a general brand? I thought laptop processors usually are soldered down. _________________ ___________________Jim©

brand name win based notebook bought last summer. the beauty of the mini is that it has a zif socket, turn a small flat top screw and out pops the CPU. the mainboard supports C2D, so I just swapped them over. taking the laptop apart was a bear, but got through it. rebooted and in about this mac the new processor shows right up. for the stuff i do on the laptop, the trade off is insignificant - but it sure did speed up the mini _________________ Mac Mini | T7200 2Ghz | 2GB DDR2 667 | FW Boot Drive 300GB | Superdrive coming soon |

I hope that doesn't happen, Apple make the best computers in the world in my mind. I don't miss my Acer laptop, apart from the money wasted on it Yep, a Mac is all you need... _________________ - MacBook Pro, 15inch, 2.4GHz, 2GB, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive. I Love this Mac!!!!

Thing is Iphone is for US only (for now), but new OS is for everyone - world wide. We'll see what happens in June. |

Blaming the delayed release of Leopard on the iPhone is good marketing. It makes the world think "oh my the iPhone is going to be so incredible, Apple has dedicated all of it's resources to it". The other thing it does is makes people think "Leopard is going to be incredible, it's going to be a solid product when Apple releases it".
This is all good. Just give buyers of new machines a Leopard upgrade coupon and we can all be happy.
Except those still waiting for a Core 2 Duo in the mini

That would be fine by me, but I don't think it will happen soon. I think the window for the Tiger update program was only like a couple of weeks out from the release date. I noticed that most of the PC makers were offering upgrade programs for Vista further out. Hopefully Apple will take their lead. I'm not counting on it though. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

Vista was late. PC makers were expecting to be able to supply it with the Xmas sales. The compromise was to provide coupons and a "Vista Capable" logo. In the UK at least, the coupon fulfiller is overwhelmed. Vista capable means vista basic, which means vista without all the new whizbang vista bits, ie. XP. So, all in all a dead loss. Lets hope that isn't Apple's model. |

This is Apple we're talking about, not Dell.
I'm glad that Apple hasn't outsourced its stuff to India like some of the other computer companies have. I'll take a 6 month delay if it prevents that from happening.

It was years late. I'm pretty sure there will only be one version of Leopard that we need to worry about. Well, unless Apple offers Leopard "Ultimate".
This coupon we're talking about would hopefully be be offered soon. A $19.95 Leopard upgrade program offered with new Macs would be great. Don't you think? _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)
