OK. I've gone ape recently and bought Miglia's MiniHD tuner, a miniMac and Apple TV. One of the hopes is to record and view HDTV programs on my HDTV display. So far, I've not figured out how to stream or sync Apple TV so that I can view HDTV program that I recorded with the Miglia.
Please help!! Thx. |

There may be a way to do this if the Miglia TV software has a H.264 or Video iPod preset for converting video. You would then still have to drag your converted files into iTunes, let the aTV either sync or download the file and then you could watch it. Keep in mind that your HD content will more than likely be scaled down.
I'd be curious if others get HD content to play on the aTV- from wherever. I haven't even plugged mine in yet. Busy with other things. _________________ -Jh |

AppleTV plays back H.264 clips up to 5 Mbs. I guess the Miglia TV records in MPEG2. You need to transcode the clips into H.264 by QT-Pro, eyeTV, iMovie HD or Handbrake (a.k. MediaFork).
I gave QT-Pro, eyeTV 2 and Handbrake 2 a chance. The results were somewhat acceptable regarding DVD content. However, HD-MPEG2 clips previously recorded by a Sony HDV-cam and transcoded to H.264 at 1 Mbs did not look overhelming on a 50" Pioneer Plasma. However, the results were mediocre as compared to playing back H.264 at 10 Mbs from a macmini or even Bluray discs played back on the same screen.
Hope there will be some HD update in the near future by Apple - we are agin early adopters. |
