if the new mini comes with 64Mb VRAM it should be able to play allmost any game currently on the mac platform and coming to the mac.
what do you think
maybe games that demand 64Mb VRAM will play a bit slow but they should play as good as most games that play on the current mini that demand 32Mb VRAM. like halo, UT2004, etc.
im hoping that games like starwars: battlefront, doom3, republic commando will play on the mini but i hear that even G5s have trouble with those games.
but the mini should be sweet now if it comes with 64Mb VRAM playing games that the current has a bit of troulble with.
im waiting for the new mini to come out and im glad i decided to wait till i had more money before i bought it .
thnx, Timmy. |

The architecture and port nature of most games released for OS X hinders their ability to run well and on "equivalent" hardware as Windows boxes. 64vram would definitely help, but I think that FireGL graphics should really be implemented in Macs, since OpenGL is the programming API for 3D on them. It makes no sense to use cards that are optimized more for DirectX on a box that doesn't use DirectX. An upgrade to 9600 or X300 graphics and the 64Mb RAM upgrade that would be associated with it, as I'm sure those chips only support a minimum 64Mb config, would make the Mini a MUCH better gaming machine.
The problem with all this "what if" is that considering the target market, if you want to game, build a cheap but much more game-friendly Linux/Windows box or just get a G5 and stop whining as gaming will never be what you want in this small box, though it will definitely improve by the Mactel revision. _________________ Computer Engineer
