Equinux intros TubeStick digital TV for Mac

Equinux today introduced TubeStick, a white Apple-esque DVB-T receiver designed exclusively for the Mac. TubeStick connects to a USB port and ships with Equinux's new TV software "TheTube". The device also works seamlessly with Equinux's own media center solution, MediaCentral. TubeStick is based on the DVB-T standard, which has found widespread adoption across Europe and is available in most European countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Scandinavia, France and the UK. DVB-T is not available in the United States or Canada. The TubeStick Special Edition, including TheTube and MediaCentral, is available for a recommended retail price of €39,95.

I'm a big fan of equinux and Media Central. I wish the would have offered a ATSC solution for the US, even though I think the EyeTV Hybrid and EyeTV 2 are probably better products.

not that i can even get the service, but once you have the tubestick reciever, do you have to pay for the special kind of digital signal as well?
or is it just the 'standard' television signal in europe, that anyone who already has cable gets anyway?
40 pounds seems extremely cheap |

According to currency converter (based on the euro), this bundle would only cost like $53 bucks here in the good old US of A. That does seem like a good deal for you guys over there. But then again, it could be a sign that the hardware is real cheapo.

The Chinese produce very cheap, and as well known by now, by exploiting their own people. In the future probably the people will unite in unions to stand strong against explotation and that will be the end of cheap production, unless the production will move to other poor Asian countries or even Africa...

I'm not going to speak about exploiting workers or the conditions they work in, but a company can still make a high-quality product in China. It just takes a good design and tight QC in the factory. I don't imagine equinux actually manufactures this product anyways. I bet it's a rebadge.

It is not to be said that China cannot make quality products, many Appleproducts are made there!

I think the concept of "Asian produced products = cheap quality" is a very antiquated notion. There's good quality and cheap quality products made in every nation.
