What's the deal with all the new macbooks going up on ebay all the sudden? There is a one day auction and there must be hundreds up by one guy. He states not to bid but contact him directly. Seems shady to me. Search ebay "macbook pro"

What do you guys think?

I noticed a huge reduction in prices lately on the lappys. They must be grtting rid of them to usher in the new models.

This is in his ad:

DO NOT BID WHITOUT MY PERMISSION OTHERWISE YOUR BID WILL BE CANCELED AND NEGATIVE FEEDBACK PLACED.
PLEASE CONTACT ME DIRECTLY AT:

adamlepker@googlemail.com

BECAUSE MY EBAY EMAIL ADDRESS IS QUITE SLOW AND SOMETIMES NOT WORKING AND I CAN`T GUARANTEE A FAST REAPLY !!
The buy now price is 1100 USD

Seems shady. Although, that is a very good price for one, I wouldn't trust it.

Now that I'm looking, the same person has a bunch of macbook pros that he is selling normally at VERY cheap prices. He does have good feedback, so it seems ok...

As with most things in life, if a deal is too good to be true, it probably is.

I sent him an email and ebay message asking what he is charging for shipping.

Something like http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-MacBook-Pro-15-4-2GHz-1GB-Laptop_W0QQitemZ320077399814QQihZ011QQcategoryZ177QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
looks pretty legit, but the fact that he is selling a couple hundred of them makes me wonder...

It probably is too good to be true.

International seller + seller who hasn't sold high priced items before + wanting to be contacted instead of bidding on ebay = a recipe for disaster.

Absolutely. If he was selling them through ebay, I would trust it because of all the fraud prevention they have set up through ebay and paypal, but because he wants to work around ebay it is very suspicious...

Edit: all his auctions seem to have gone away... Not even ended early, but disappeared.

Poor spelling + international + shady payment option?

I'LL BUY TEN!!

Sorry for the delay but i have tooo many customers .... thank you for the understanding .
The Buy it Now Price for the New APPLE MACBOOK PRO 15.4'' 2.33GHz INTEL 2G RAM is $1280 USD with shipping and delivery to 43201 included in the price .
For payment i propose you a deal , a very safe deal for you ....

In this deal, i'm the one

who need to trust you, not you in me ....
This is a deal in the same way like COD with a little difference like COD .
l will ship via UPS but you can choose other mail carrier .lt
usually takes 48 hours till the package arrives to your door. l will
cover the shipping and insurance costs.I send all my packages
having written on them "display unit, no comercial value" or as a gift
so you
don't have to pay any additional taxes. (VAT included)
l'm a serious seller with more than 2 years of experience in
this field.
l'm a fair trader with a good feedback on ebay which is the
proof that l have closed a lot of sucessful deals.
During this period l learned that the best deals are closed when the
risk involved is minimum.
You will arrange payment through western union( www.westernunion.com ).
I have something safe for you because I want you to be sure that
you will receive the product and I hope we will colaborate in future
too
because I want to develop this bussines as soon as possible.
Look what I can do for you:
-you will make the transfer to my location but not to my name(you will
use your best friends name for example as receiver's name)so you can be
sure that i will not pick up the money untill you get the product. So
you make a deposit at western union and you will
give me the transfer's details(SENDER NAME,RECEIVER NAME,MTCN) so i can
check that the deposit was made .
After i verify I will send you the product imediately and email you the
tracking number from UPS.
-only after you will receive the product and check it, if it is ok you will
have to change the reciver`s name of the transfer to my name so i can collect my
money.So untill you
will have the product in your hands the money will be deposited on
your best friend's name at western union agent.
I think it is better to not inform western union that you will change
the receivers name in a few days because it is possible
they to ask you to pay the fees twice also when you go to an western
union office to make the transfer, please don't tell there the reason for you
send the money because here in this country I must pay somes aditional taxes
when I recive the founds(you know busines with electronic...),Please say
you send the money to your friends or to your partener.
My old buyers of course make the transfer at western union direct to my
name which is easier and i will be happy if you can trust in me but
because it is our
first deal i proposed you this very safe and efficient method so you can
only deposit the money first and after you get the product to allowed
me to cash it.
Western Union company have offices in every bank, postal
office, big store or airport from your town.
Probably this payment method it is not very familiar to you but l have used it for many
times and each of my customers being satisfied and l have to admit that
it is most efficient process to go through.
In case you'll change your mind after receiving the
package and want to cancel the order you'll ship it back and retreive
the money from western union. Also in case the delivery does not arrive
on time please email me and I'll contact the mail carrier.
is it ok?in this way you will be sure that i won`t have the money until you will
recive the package and change the reciver`s name.
Look here my full info's to make the payment :
first name : Fred
last name : Daine
adress: 13 WIMBLEDON ROAD
city : LONDON
country: UNITED KINGDOM
zip code : SW17 OUG
Don't forget to change the Receiver's Name when you will send the money
and after you will receive the package, you will change the Receiver Name
in my name : Fred Daine .
Please give me a reply if you accept the deal in this way .
Thank you and let me know

That's a great price, but super shady...

Unless he agrees to make the sale through some reputable service (ebay, paypal) I'd stay away from it.

STAY AWAY FROM IT!

I had that kind of experience with a woman from Africa who wanted to buy my Dell Axim X51 Pocket PC... she was willing to give me $700 DOLLARS!.... I was excited at first but then she wanted to trick me using Western Union.. and THAT SAME KIND OF message... with almost the same kind of bad spelling as the one was sent to you "velocitytrap"... anyway... stay away from it... I was really really excited but it was a fake Sad

Next email that I received:

The transaction must be made through ebay so we can be protected .
For the moment I'm expanding my paypal account and I can not send or receive any money.
We are under ebay protection that is why you have to send the money to the ebay agent.
He will keep the money in his custody until you will receive the package .Then with your according ebay will release the money to me and the deal is completed.
As soon as the money are in the ebay custody the package will be sent to you through UPS overnight .
To start the transaction through ebay email me your full name and adrress in order to contact ebay. In short time ebay will send you the invoice with all information about about this transaction .
I wait your reply .
