Not really a Mini question but I trust yall's opinion. I have a neighbor who had G3 at a yard sale today the one with the slot in the front. I don't know the particulars on it but it seemed to work fine and I can get it for $40.00. Question, is that worth buying just for the fun of it? Also would it be suitable for e-mail and Internet? I was think of it for my mother-law.
Thank you |

I've recently got into this "freecycle" thing, and somebody said that they would happily donate a Blue PowerMac G3 to me.
It's powerful enough to run OS X 10.2, which is great if just for nostalgic value. _________________ Visit www.TheBigApples.net for Apple news and podcasts. |

As long as everything is functional, it is definitely worth $40.00. As you can see by my tag, I have a slot-loading iMac G3. It still works as well as the day it was purchased. Other than adding more memory; nothing has EVER been done to it. Never been opened. I keep it for OS9 use. I would not consider parting with it for $40.00. If your neighbor still has it, and it were me, I would buy it. _________________ Mac Book 2.1 Ghz (Penryn) 10.6.7 4Gb DDR2

| I bought a blue & white G3 PowerMac tower for $15 a couple years ago. It had a 400 mhz G3 processor, 384 mb of RAM, DVD and Zip drives but no hard drive. I put in a 40 gb hard drive, and installed Tiger on it. Ran pretty good, although it took a while for the text to show up in iWork's Pages for some odd reason. |

| I wish I could find some sweet deals like you guys are finding. I would love to have an old mac to just "beat up". |

$40 is a small price to pay for the "fun of it". I say go for it! As far and donating it to your mother-in-law, that is another thing all together. Buy it for the fun, but don't put it into service as someone's primary computer unless they have ZERO expectations of relying on it. (it's not like you can get AppleCare for the thing) _________________ -=iMav=-
