I don’t understand. The AppleTV only supports higher-end video standards, but anything you buy from the Apple Store isn't even DVD quality. The HiRes picture feature is cool, but I can’t see videos looking all that great.

I have a nice HD TV that has no available Component video connections since I have a DVD player and an HD Cable box.

I would really only want this to stream music.

Has anyone heard of a way to down-convert component to S-Video or Composite?

I just need to see the screen; it doesn’t have to be wonderful.

I'm not sure it will work, but you might be able to use a DVI to HDMI converter with the Apple DVI to Video adapter for S-Video.

I would also like to find out about going this route; as it stands, my Mini serves as my media centre, workstation, and internet hub, and I cannot maintain such functionality with my limited television (a 21" Hitachi from 1993). If I had an AppleTV, then my entire movie library could be digitally stored and viewed, but the only inputs this set offers me are composite.

I know HD is making huge ground, but I don't think I should have to eat crow because I'm waiting for a dependable SD set to die.

ditto, I've got a great RCA 27" SD tv I bought in 2001 that still works like a champ. I was waiting anxiously for this product, but the fact it only supports HD is kinda dissapointing actually. You'd think a converter or something would be available. They're gonna have a hard time getting this into every living room as it stands now Sad

This has always been an Apple trademark. Look how long ago Apple did away with the 3 1/2" floppy and todays PCs still ship with them.

well, omitting a 10 dollar floppy drive is a bit different than requiring the investment of a 1000 dollar tv

Very good point!

But will Atv work going component input to a SD TV??

Your current TV may not be progressive scan, but your next one will be!

just picked this up from another forum - same issue:

http://www.js-technology.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=52

and here another one from the US

http://www.svideo.com/appletv2tv.html

Given the costs of the adapter plus appleTV, one may consider to buy a Macmini instead.
