| The actual 80GB player isn't doing much for me, but I have to give Microsoft credit for giving older owners the free software update. This is going to put some pressure on Apple. Wireless syncing is cool feature too. I really thought Apple would include this feature in the 6G or touch iPod. |

I'm going to wait until they actually make it in the hands of consumers to pass judgment. The Wi-Fi syncing looks cool on paper, but so did the Wi-Fi sharing of the previous Zunes, and it turned out to be a DRM encumbered mess. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

Yeah, but you are syncing your own library. I don't see DRM being an issue. My concerns would be with speed and battery life. It will be interesting to see how it works out. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I didn't mean that DRM would be an issue with WiFi syncing, I meant more what looks good on paper, sometimes doesn't look as good in reality.
The WiFi sharing features of the Zune were supposed to be the "killer feature", and it turned out to be pretty poor. WiFi syncing could be much of the same. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

I agree with Castaway. Apple should've been first with wireless syncing. They also should've been first with 802.11b/g.
I also agree with ClunkClunk. Now it needs to be proven as a viable option and not a gimmick. I'm excited, but I have my doubts.
I also agree with G5G5. It could be a major drain on battery life. |

Ah, I misunderstood.

I was reading a little more about it yesterday and it appears that you can manually sync the Zune wirelessly on battery power, but you can't use the auto-sync feature. It needs to be sitting in the dock for power. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

Heh heh Communism... Man I'm glad I was born in '90 lol.
Anyhoo, the Zune you say?
As a sidenote, I just got Safari 3 with the 10.4.11 update, and it spellchecks inside text boxes now! Woo! Zune is an incorrect spelling! Funnily enough, iPod isn't...
Wifi eats battery. The Zune never had an impressive battery to begin with, and they haven't made any fanfare about the new one so I suspect it'll be just as feeble. I can see the bonus of wifi syncing if you're a minimalist and hate cables, but hey, if you were a minimalist, you'd have an iMac and the only cable on your desk would lead to the iPod dock!
Plus, the iPod can charge itself when its syncing, which is infinitely useful if you want to take a walk as soon as a new song has downloaded/synced and your battery was near-dead (like mine always is).
As for sharing music, dudes just get a set of JVC headphones and crank up the volume. The dead will be able to rock out to your tunes! _________________
