Every time I want to use my Apple TV, I have to run to my basement to manually wake up my intel-based iMac. Otherwise, Apple TV cannot find the specified source, i.e., my iMac.
Any suggestion for a remedy for this annoyance? Thank you. |

You really have two options.
1. Set the iMac to never sleep.
2. Use syncing and upgrade the hard drive. This way you don't need the computer to be on or awake. It also provides the best and most reliable video playback. |

Accessing iTunes (or anything else - Mac OS X files, Windows shares, etc.) from a "server" sort of implies that the server is up, either at all times or as you're doing manually whenever you want to access it. That's one reason why I'm probably not interested, at least yet, in an Apple TV. I have a Mac Mini attached to my plasma TV, which is only used for media (iTunes, Front Row, etc.) while my upstairs Power Mac (someday to become another Mini or possibly an iMac) is sleeping whenever I'm not using it. So, my Power Mac is a "workstation", not a "server", as far as any kind of remote access is concerned.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I have "Wake for Ethernet Administration" set in the Energy Saver, but that doesn't seem to work.
I'm going to try and see if setting Static IPs to the ATV and my Mac Mini will make a difference.
This would be an great fix for them to tackle in an update. I'd like to sleep my mini at night and then when I get home in the evening after work, I don't want to have to wake it up manually. I see no reason why the ATV can't wake the mini. |
