WD today introduced its My Book Studio Edition external hard drives designed for creative users and formatted for Mac computers. Equipped with quadruple interfaces (USB 2.0, FireWire 400/800 and eSATA) and offered in capacities from 320GB to 1TB, the new My Book Studio Edition external hard drive features: automatic, continuous backup; synchronization and encryption of data; capacity gauge that shows how much space is available; drive activity light; 5-year limited warranty; environmentally-friendly power saving design; SmartPower feature; designed without a fan to run quietly; and a silver metallic finish that complements other Mac products. Estimated pricing for the My Book Studio Edition ranges from $199.99 to $399.99 depending upon capacity.

These look pretty darn nice in silver, but it looks like WD is charging a $30 dollar coloring tax for Mac users. Unless I'm missing something, the MyBook Home model appears to have the same specs and features for less money.

Only difference I can see is FW 800 and pre-formatted. Also as mentioned the color.

I want to get a single drive 1TB external and I would get either this or a Lacie, but the Lacie costs $550 and only has a FW 400 port added, but I'll be using this with an iMac, so for $150 less I'll gladly pay up in comparison. Also, does WD even have any other single drive 1TB externals?

That's probably worth a couple a bucks. Although I would be going the backwards compatibility route to FW 400 anyways. By the way, I looked around the product page a little more and it also appears that you get two more years on the warranty. So I guess it's a pretty fair deal when you compare it to the other model.
