Apple Intros iPod touch
Wednesday, September 5, 2007
Posted by: Charles
Apple today introduced the new Pod touch featuring Apple's multi-touch user interface that enables users to find and enjoy all of their music, videos and more on its widescreen display with just the touch of a finger. First introduced on iPhone, the multi-touch interface uses new software to present the perfect user interface for each application. The iPod touch also includes Wi-Fi wireless networking, the first on any iPod, and three applications that use it: Safari, Apple's advanced browser that lets users wirelessly view Web pages just as they look on their computer, and features Google Search or Yahoo! oneSearch; Apple's YouTube application lets users wirelessly watch over 10 million free videos from the Internet's most popular video Web site; and the new iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store lets users wirelessly browse, preview and buy songs and albums from the iTunes music store. Available later this month, iPod touch comes in 8GB and 16GB models for $299 and $399, respectively.

I'll probably buy one the first of the year. I'm a little tapped out from buying a new Mac mini. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

At 8GB and 16GB you can bet it's not hard drives but flash storage. For now, you have to decide between capacity (iPod classic) or features and widescreen (iPod touch).

You need Wi-Fi for VoIP. Unless you meant for the headset?
Yes, it would have been nice if the iPod Touch had a built-in mic, for taking voice notes and all. But given all the other specs, it's still really good. |

I was just able to complete my purchase of the 16GB touch. It only took like 30 minutes. Now comes the hard part. Waiting until the 28th. _________________ 14" 1.25GHz G4 iBook (died)

| Does it have a glass screen like the iPhone? I don't see that info. |

| I just wish that it had more storage. Imagine having that 160GB hard drive in one these bad boys. Everything else (and I mean everything else) rocks! I'll be buying one closer to the holidays. |

I want one of these things. I'll be back on the road Sept 17th so I'll hold off until I can purchase one retail. I don't want it to disappear from my mailbox.
The "impulse buy" feeling that I'm getting right now might wear off by then, but this thing looks great and I want one.
I'm sort of torn though, my music and Podcasts are currently at 35GB. I'd probably buy the 160GB iPod if it had a widescreen. |

When you wish upon a star....
It was hard to go to work today. I drove home like some kind of maniac.
I need to go and do a little research now. |

Or a few possible remote control hacks. Remote Buddy should still work though. And that's enough for me to buy one. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

I was so hopping for this... and then my hopes were dashed.
In order to replace my Windoz Mobile PDA I NEED a text editor, a voice recorder, and a book reader. Looks like the PDA features here are a bit lame. For this size of unit, for the abilities of the OS, there should be a stiffer run against other PDAs on the market. I could live with "not as good as PPc and PALM" in thrid party programs catagory as long as there was more in the offering for the iPod Touch. I think I will stick with my iPod Video 60g and my Windoz PDA for now. Sigh.

I guess so. I'm sure the iPod Touch will be pretty weak as a PDA initially, but I wouldn't be surprised if it became great some day.
For my needs the software that comes with the iPod Touch will likely do. Simple things like phone numbers, calendar, to do's etc. |
