There are a lot of options out there for getting music into your Mac! So how do you get your music?
I get most of my music from iTunes but I have been buying a few CD's lately! _________________ 13' Macbook 2.0ghz C2D w/2gb RAM and 120gb HD

I typically buy my music from amazon because they have really good prices for new CDs compared to the lower quality iTunes version. Audio quality is a big deal for me so the highest bit rate i can get comes first. _________________ - MacBook Pro, 15inch, 2.4GHz, 2GB, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive. I Love this Mac!!!!

I buy the CD for stuff I like and get it from iTunes for music that is hard to find or if I just want one or two songs from a CD. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

I'm with Robin on this one; if I want a whole album, I'd prefer the CD from Amazon.
1) It's a lossless format
2) I've got something to show for my money that I can hold in my hands
3) When I rip it to iTunes, the original disc acts as my backup
For some reason, it's often cheaper to buy a CD and have a supplier post it through the labour-intensive snail mail, than it is for Apple to send me the same music as a stream of zeros and ones down a phone line. How does that work? Sometimes, the exceptions to this rule are the audiobooks that I would pay £12 for on CD, but can download for about £5. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

So far I am a split between CDs and iTunes, leaning more towards CDs due to better quality. I haven't tried out Amazon yet, but your comments have convinced me that I should. _________________ The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations.

Yeh i rip them in Lossless too and typically CDs cost £5-£6 on amazon or other sellers on there compared to playing for a lower quality version for £10 on iTunes.
But i was shocked to hear that CDs and MP3s/ACCs were limited to 3dB range, which really sucks. The only format that exceeds 3dB were vinyl records which had a range upto 12dB, meaning you'd get the best audio quality possible, the only downside is that dust or any other particles would get on the record and affect the audio when playing as we all know. _________________ - MacBook Pro, 15inch, 2.4GHz, 2GB, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive. Over the past 25 years , the marketing people have done a great job of indoctrinating us all with the mantra of "analogue = bad, digital = good". A friend of mine used to give a demonstration to anyone who was interested; he'd play the same track to them on a Rega Planar 2 and then on a CD player. Many a shocked face would admit that the vinyl sounded better.
I've got a stack of vinyl LPs in the attic, but that's where they're staying. The difference in sound quality isn't enough for me to forego the convenience of my iPod Shuffle. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

I think the best audio quality i've heard so far was from (now go easy on me) a Pink song and it was in the 'Wav' format. And it sounded really really good, the data rate was at 3Mbps, plus it had a really good dB range, you could ever her her run out of breath towards the end of the verses. _________________ - MacBook Pro, 15inch, 2.4GHz, 2GB, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive. "Buy the CD and Rip it in"
That's me. I have another method for hard to find music, but I'd rather not go into it. |

If I buy new, I buy on iTunes usually. If it's an older album, I'll buy it on Amazon's used section, as there's some great deals to be had. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external
