Apple to hold special event on September 5th
Tuesday, August 28, 2007

Apple will be holding a special press event on Wednesday, September 5th. The event will take place at the Moscone West venue in San Francisco at 10:00 AM PDT. The invitations for the special event simply read: "The beat goes on."

| Please, oh please, let it be a 6G iPod with touchscreen Mr. Jobs. That iPod fatty isn't doing much for me. |

A special edition Sonny and Cher iPod! Yesssss!
A touch iPod would be great, but I hope it keeps the hard drive. |

The beat goes on likely = a new iPod.
To me this is almost a little bit of a bummer. I plan on getting a new machine when Leopard is released and if a really cool iPod is released I'll want it too. That's a double sting to the wallet.
If it is a 6th gen iPod, it's going to be interesting to see how Apple markets it. Their current commercials for the iPhone are pushing to put your songs into your phone instead of two devices.

I predict a Wi-Fi touch screen ipod to boost iTunes sales. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

| If a new iPod does come out, I would probably end up getting it. Wasn't it this time last year when they announced the 5.5G and 2G iPod and iPod Nanos? |

A new iPod with a 3.5" touchscreen might cannibalize iPhone sales. Apple may want to keep those features exclusive to the iPhone for a while longer. Once again, it will be interesting to see what they do. I'm definitely in the market for a full-size player.

I would love to see wireless syncing, YouTube, mail and Safari. I could care less about Zune-type sharing. |

This past weekend I was looking at the iPods with the thought of getting one. As alluded to above, the smaller ones have less memory, while the larger ones seem to me bulkier. They remind me of the Palm III I used to carry around.
I'd be interested in an iPod that was more robust with a smaller form factor. |

I'm guessing that it's a Beatles special edition iPod:
Initially, it will only play a selection of corny love songs and make Liverpool-style wise cracks until you send it to India for a short while. When it comes back, the music it plays will be much better, but it will have a tendency to display pretentious messages about eastern mysticism and meditation for 3 years until it unexpectedly splits into 4 pieces that won't work together any more. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b

My money is on those "phatty" nanos, 2GB shuffles and a Beatles special edition iPod. I don't think there will be a new "touch" iPod with the iPhone still being so new. I would also like to see them announce a date for Leopard. |

The "Fat nano" could end up being the new regular size iPod. Having a 2.5" screen on the iPod nano doesn't make any sense to me. It would just make the device more cumbersome. The iPod nanos and minis have always been designed to be ultra portable. This makes them perfect for walking and working out with. I don't see a "Fat nano" fitting into that tradition. _________________ 2.4GHz MacBook Pro/4GB/320GB HD

I really don't see what would be the problem with a touchscreen iPod (phone-less iPhone) killing iPhone sales. I mean, if the profit margin is the same, why not?
Also, a lot of people are expecting a "phone-less iPhone" iPod now that they've seen the iPhone.
There's also the fact that the iPhone just doesn't cut it as a real iPod with only 8GB storage max, especially when you start putting TV shows and movies on it.
And those new 160GB 1.8" drives just came out a few days ago. I don't think Apple will use flash storage for the "regular" iPod. |

I'll pass if the new iPod has another 4:3 screen. I want one with a 3.5" widescreen multi-touch display. |
