|
|
I didn't believe it when I saw it! There at the Best Buy on Richmond Ave and Post Oak Blvd., behind the Galleria in Houston, Texas.
There, standing like a monolith in front of all those dells & Sonys was Apple!
There was a LCD display built into the wall with a running loop showing Mac goodness to the throngs of winclone dittoheads filing by.
They had some last-gen iMacs and others setup. No new keyboards, or new iLife.
They even had a mini specific stackable HDD (I can't remember which one) boxed up near by! It was impressive.
And in the Best Buy tradition, there was nobody there at all working the store-within-a-store area.
This seemed like a nice first step. I just hope Best Buy has the follow-through to back this for a while.
I reached for my camera to grab a picture, but NO, I was stopped. I was being real sneaky too! Damn.....
Anyone see one of these, or manage to grab a picture?? |

Do you mean an actual store or just a display area, because those are at the Best Buys around my area and they never are too impressive just a MacBook and an iMac set out (no Mac minis). _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

There is different shelving, different security devices, etc... the concept for that is called a store within a store. Kind of like how Sprint is in Radio Shack, but this is in a larger scale, and much better done.
I'll be heading by there again this week for a closer look. |

| We don't have the Apple store-within-a-store at our local Best Buy. They only carry the old 20" iMac, iPods and a few other accessories. In fact, I think you still need to order the iMac from them online because it's only a demo. I hope our store gets one soon though. |

They are supposed to get the iPhone soon too. |
YES, that's it! It was a bit bigger (or so it seemed!) and there were more people walking about. Hey it looks like Apple found a good way to liquidate the old style keyboards too!
As far as effort goes, it's a step in the right direction. I used to sell Macs at Incredible Universe side by side with PCs and it's not a very good idea! To anyone who ever did it in the day, you get the DUMBEST questions, like "What does accellerated for Power Macintosh mean?" and "is a 68030 @ 33 faster than a 68040 @ 25, what about this 486 DX2/66?"
Of course the line is blurred with the intel processors, but still, the Mac Store in the Best Buy is close to the front of the store in front of where ppl go to make returns. So they can wait in line to return their wincloce and stare at the Mac Store the entire time.... Nice!!! |

I think they are calling their version the "C" Student bar. |

Same here. The old iMac is gone, but the iPod stuff is still there. |

At one of the Best Buys I shop at there is one salesperson who is a total Apple enthusiast. He sells about 7 Macs a day. I wouldn't call him a genius
but at least he was smart enough to switch and now he's getting a lot more people to switch. |

Now that's being generous don't you think? _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

For the benefit of limeys like me who had to find out what 'Best Buy' was so that they could get the joke: http://www.bestbuy.com/ & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_Buy
Our equivalent would seem to be Currys or Comet. _________________ Intel Mini 2.0GHz C2D (4GB/120GB/SuperDrive/10.5.8 ), 120GB WD Passport, Logitech ergo k/b
