Okay folks, my mind is almost made up but I need a bit of input from you fine individuals. I'm expecting to finally get my money next week but something is telling me to hold off on the Mini. As Monk might say,"Here's the thing...". My PC POS is making weird noises like humming and stuff and I don't know if it's a dirty fan or if it's just about to go teats up. If I knew the thing would hold out, I'd wait. But I don't want to go without if things do go south.
On the other coin, I CAN be patient if need be and I can wait on the Mac with Leopard (and save myself $129U.S.) but I'm getting anxious. Help me make up my mind.  Thanks, yo. |

my next mac won't be another mini
if i can afford to buy a new mac, it won't be for something only slightly better than what i have now
i'd rather shell out the cash for a high end imac or a new mac pro |

| I'm kinda screwed as I'm not loaded and I'm itching to get me a Mac... just a Mac... I don't care if it peels the paint off a Navy warship. I want A MAC. I've been stuck in WindowsLand wayyyy too long. |

Get it now and start learning all there is to learn in Tiger. then when you do get Leopard you will really enjoy the difference between the old and New!

I believe my mind is made up. I know it'll cost me in the long run but I think I'm going to go ahead and buy my Mac now. A good point was made earlier and I have to say I can't wait any longer. I want to create NOW, I want to enjoy my DVDs NOW, I want to edit my movies NOW. I just want this Mac so badly NOW and I can always use my birthday in November as a reason for everyone to fork over the dough and get it for me then. Either that or I can save up some more money and just buy it myself. I'll ask for more RAM instead.  |

The frugal side of me says wait, thats the one that voted. The Mac lover in me said get one now as I can totally sense your excitement and don't want you to be stuck in Windowsland any longer than you have to.

You really can't go wrong either way; waiting till now already earned you a faster processor, larger HD and more RAM! I'm in the same boat; so far I'm waiting.

The Mini I just ordered will be replacing an old HP PIII that has been the main family computer for nearly 7 years now. In that time, I've upgraded it to XP, replaced hard drives, added Firewire and USB 2.0 cards, and replaced the video card. I've definitely gotten my money out of the thing. But 2 weeks ago it wouldn't even boot into safe mode, and this time I had to get into the registry to get it back. So the upgrade of the Minis to C2D couldn't have come at a better time. Sure, I could wait until Leopard is released, but here are two reasons not to:- It's by no means certain that Leopard will be out in October.
- The Mini comes with Tiger, of course, and Tiger is a more mature , well-sorted out OS than Leopard will be initially.
YMMV, but it was an easy decision for me.

Good for you, making the most of a "dated" computer. I think it's great when people extend the life of their computer, Mac or PC. If everyone did this, there would be a lot less electronic waste!
I'm doing it with my PowerMac Cube, now seven years old. Admittedly, it's an easier decision with a Mac (and the Cube particularly) because of the great design features in many of the Mac models, and I include the mini in that category.

With the exception of the WinXP laptop that I use for video editing with Adobe, every computer in the house is over at least 7 years old. The Mac I've been using to learn OS X is a dual G4 PowerMac "Gigabit Ethernet". I've been amazed at how easy it is to keep an old, "obsolete" Mac running well. I'm anticipating a surprising upgrade in speed this week!

| Never. The current Mac mini I have right now will be my last Mac mini. When I upgrade my computer, I'll probably get an iMac or MacBook Pro. |

| I just ordered one tonight. It will be replacing a first generation mini as my main computer. Probably use the first gen as a print and iTunes server. Went ahead and added iWork '08. Give me a chance to get comfortable with it, before a start learning Leopard. |

| I went through the Mac mini waiting game and it sucked. I really think this is probably a good time to make the leap. I wouldn't let the lack of Leopard put me off from buying either. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see it slip until Macworld 08. Tiger is plenty good to hold you over. |

Y'all just rock so much. Not only have you made me feel so welcome here (all warm and fuzzy) but you've finally helped me make my decision (have I already said that?). I want this bad boy like a cocaine addict needs his/her fix (don't wanna leave anybody out there). I just got back from my local Mac shack and they said they expect 15 to come in the next few days. I'll be sure to be there with bells (and whistles) on... for shizzel! This will compliment my brand spankin' new Envision 19" widescreen flat panel monitor (hey, I wanna see this baby in all of its glory!) on sale now this week at your local Best Buy shack for the incredibly low low price of only $129... and tax. Thanks again guys for your time and help!
OH, BTW, I AM going with the Mini. Erm, the 1.83 model. |
