Ugh, the Mini just can't get no love from Mr. Steve. No mention at all of the Mini until someone asks about it. And then its just 'oh yea, were updating that today. Next question!'. Almost like a stepchild!
But, I guess a minor update is better than nothing. Its still alive! |

No 802.11n. Why not? Its the only Mac to be stuck with 802.11g.
To use it as a media center you either need a big hard drive or a fast network. Still has a 2.5" drive, so no big drive. 802.11g, not the fastest network.
Seems that Apple can't decide what to do with the Mini.
Still, this is mostly what I've been waiting for all year, so I might get one, or I might wait until Leopard. |

Yes, a GPU upgrade would have been nice, along with 802.11n. But let's face it, this is not a new motherboard, only a simple CPU/RAM/HD upgrade.
Even so, I am more than grateful that the Mac mini isn't discontinued.
Two new products coming soon. |

So, what is the consensus on here? Is this more or less the Mini we've been waiting for, or were some expecting more?
I think its a bit odd how low key they kept the mention of the Mini until it was brought up. I think the upgrade to core 2 duo is a significant upgrade for the Mini, but at the same time, its about time. But why no 802.11n wireless? It would seem like a no brainer that if an upgrade is being done, you upgrade to the latest connectivity as well. They obviously have the hardware which wouldn't seem to cost any more than the g cards. Enough people have proven that the software and hardware will support it. There is room inside the current case, so why not? But, this is a simple enough of an upgrade to do, so I wouldn't let it stop me from buying.
But I'm still waiting for the Leopard release and possibly MacWorld before buying anything. |
