So your Mini's fan actually runs less often now that you installed 10.4.2? | Yea, it was wierd. Before 10.4.2 the fan would run alot with just a few programs open and even when playing games. Then I upgraded and the fan only comes on when I have multiple programs open and Im burning a CD.....
I didnt t think the update had anything to do with the fan.... _________________ 1st Generation Mac Mini 1.5/512/40gig/Superdrive/Tiger |

My internal drive (Seagate 4200 ST9808210A) seems to typically run anywhere between 40C/104F and 45C/113F during average use. When just surfing the web, using NeoOffice or the like it sticks at about 41C/106F. The published operating temperature for the Seagate is between 5C/41F and 55C/131F. These average temperatures are with the miniStack running beneath it as well so I'm not too concerned. _________________ 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

So for sure the temp probe is just for the hard drive...?
It's funny the mini is the only computer I never opened, the day I bought (or built) it. It's still a virgin. That's the way it should be. I'm tired of computer guts, noise and OS re-installs etc. |

Yes, the only available sensor is for the drive. If you run something like Temperature Monitor it will give you a detailed list of available sensors (at least the ones it can find). I've commented on this before but it would also be nice if you could poll SMART temperature data from SMART capable FW drives. Currently you cannot on a Mac. _________________ 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

i cant get it working either. I think it is because its not specially designed for the mac mini, the name of the widget is miniCPUHeat, but it is not related to the mac mini... _________________ Mac mini 1.25/512MB/40GB

no...its about 90% quieter than my PC 400W fan and 3 other fans in the case...so its noticably quieter
the thing is, it wasnt this loud a while ago, and now it is 'louder' than it use to be...thus the confusion _________________ 1.42 ghz mac mini w/ 1gig ram
