Microsoft delays Office 2008 for Mac
Thursday, August 2, 2007
Posted by: Glenn
Microsoft has announced that Office 2008 for the Mac will be delayed until January of 2008. "It really is just a quality issue across the board," said Craig Eisler, GM of Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit. He went on to say that Apple 's decision to switch to Intel-based chips disrupted the software development process, as did Microsoft's move to a new file format with the release of Office 2007 for Windows-based computers. The launch of Office 2008 is now expected at Macworld Expo 2008 in San Francisco.

| No biggie for me. I don't know about you guys, but I wasn't really expecting it to come out until Macworld 2008 anyways. |

At least they didn't blame it on the Zune Phone. |

2+ years to make Office universal. Typical Microsoft.
I wish this spurred Apple in to revitalizing Appleworks. As much as iWork is cool, it's not nearly as useful as the old Appleworks was. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

Me too. I also think Apple got a little lazy with iWork because they see Microsoft bumbling around with Office. I could get more excited about iWork if it just had a spreadsheet. The rumor is they will add one in iWork '08, but you never know with Apple. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

I guess this is why they are calling it Office 2008.
I just followed a link over to Microsoft's Mac Mojo blog and it said they were planning a series of sneak peaks in September. It will be interesting to see if they have anything really cool up their sleeve. I just hope that Apple is smart enough to take advantage of this next Tuesday and take the wraps off iWork 08. |

Well, quite.
But, who cares about office software anyway?

I hate to say it, but Office 2007 might be one of the best products MS has ever created. I'm actually looking forward to Office for Mac 2008. Well, as long as the pricing is reasonable. Sorry OpenOfficers! _________________ 14" 1.25GHz G4 iBook (died)
