What kind of readings are you guys getting? I get 93.2 F.
By the way I came up with a fix for the fan noise. Crank iTunes up to 11!
I'm still searching! |
holy shit, im getting 109.4 degrees...let me scan this again...
EDIT- yeah , its still saying 109.4 F....and all im running is firefox and ichat
i mean, the bottom of the mini yesterday felt like it was on fire...i figured it was the wooden dresser i have it on top of
something cant be right...because i just picked it up and felt the bottom and its barely even hot...maybe a bit warm, but thats pretty much a given and the air coming out the back is barely warm as well
maybe that is where the problem lies...mac osX thinks the mini is burning up and keeps the fan running high? _________________ 1.42 ghz mac mini w/ 1gig ram

well i went and ran some errands and left the mini idle..now its at 102.2
something is wrong...and go figure...my return period of 14 days at best buy ended yesterday
EDIT-dammit, the temp is climbing now...going to 104 in a period of less than a minute of me getting on it
EDIT2- another minute later adn its at 105.8
EDIT3- wtf, the fan has kicked into high gear and is being noisy as my damn xbox...then it quiets back down, then kicks back into high gear....the air blowing out is barely warm at all and the bottom of the mini isnt that warm either....i dont know why its kicking the fan on if the system isnt overheating (in my opinion)...now its getting to the point where i want to send apple an email or phone call.... _________________ 1.42 ghz mac mini w/ 1gig ram

well its jumped up to 107.6 and the fan keeps cutting on
so im going to make my ipod a hard drive again and put everything i need on it (music, files, etc) and then just reinstall everything....if this doesnt help it, then i guess i will be sitting on the phone with apple _________________ 1.42 ghz mac mini w/ 1gig ram

| Turn your mini off for a while and try later. Were you doing anything drive intensive this morning? |

no, i turned it on last nite at like 11...went to bed around 12ish...it probably went to sleep around 1230ish...i woke it back up at 7am and turned on ichat and firefox, installed the heat software...then went to run errands, so it fell back asleep between 9-10...then came back and woke it up and turned ichat and firefox back on
EDIT - took a quick shower and let it sit, now its down to 100.4...still pretty damn hot, and im sure with me typing and playing in firefox it will jump back up in a few minutes
EDIT2- yep, back up to 104 within a minute _________________ 1.42 ghz mac mini w/ 1gig ram

| I opened up a bunch of apps and played 1 game of Snood 3.0. (like tetris) and it's at 105.8F The fan kicked into high for about 5 seconds and then turned down to low during the game. |

| 93.2 It's been on all morning. Let my daughter watch The Incredibles. Fan still running on low all the time. We need to know what the CPU and video temperatures are running at. |

109F is about 43C or so. That is still a very low temperature for a CPU. I've been into the PC overclocking scene and that's better than many aircooled PC setups, either OEM or homebrew. Once you get around 60, then get concerned. _________________ Computer Engineer

What I'd like to know is what temp Panther users are running at, and at what temp. the fan shuts off totally (like sleep mode). I'd take measures to better cool my mini, if I could get the fan to totally turn off during web surfing. But I'm not going back to Panther to do it.
I'm still at 256MB RAM. But I don't think that is what is making the difference.
So again, I'll ask when running Panther... does your fan shut totally off (like sleep mode) when you are just surfing?
