Apple Releases Software Update for Apple TV
Wednesday, June 20, 2007
Posted by: Brian
Apple today announced that YouTube is now live on Apple TV. According to the company, users can download the free software update using Apple TV's built-in software update feature, and then easily navigate through YouTube's familiar video browsing categories or search for specific videos. YouTube members can also log-in to their YouTube accounts on Apple TV to view and save their favorite videos. Apple also announced today that iPhone users will be able to enjoy YouTube's originally-created content on their iPhones when they begin shipping on June 29th.

It's either a very big update file or the download is not reaching good speeds. Can't tell anything from a spinning icon. |

I keep getting the message "update failed" after it restarts. I wonder if they locked out people that did their own drive upgrades? |

I'm going in circles. It looks like I'll have to swap the drives back out, update, and then clone again. |

The quality of the YouTube videos are about what you would expect. I'll take the update for free, but it's nothing to write home about. I would still like volume control, iTunes radio and the abilty to stream photos. _________________ 1.66GHz, 1.83GHz and 2.0GHz Mac minis

Those are a good three. I would also like to see them open up that bloody USB port and make some use of it. I might not be going through the headache that I have now. There really should've been an external storage option from day one. |

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you've been able to get it running.
I really like the new YouTube interface, but the video quality is average at best. You can't really blame that on Apple though. The videos are what they are. It's not like Apple created and encoded the originals. All in all, I think they did nice job on it. That being said, I still think Apple has a long way to go with this product. They definitely need to add some of the features and functionality that Ben and Rickb mentioned. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)
