I was playing with the text-to-speech system preference on my Mac Mini. It was fun at first, but I got tired of it and turned it off... Mostly! The login window refused to shut up. I cant figure out how to turn the darn thing off.
If I hear Fred say "Edit Secure Text" one more time, I'll go batty!!

Go to system preferences > speech > text to speech> and uncheck all the boxes. Or you can select whisper! JK _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| Those boxes ARE unchecked already. Any other switches I can throw? I appreciate your help. |

Other trouble shooting info:
1) The voice in text-to-speech is set to Vicci, but it is clearly Fred's voice in the login window.
2) I have multiple user accounts, but mine is the only one with admin privileges.
3) Tiger 10.4.2 running on the baseline MacMini (40GB, 1.2 GHz)
4) System Preferences > Universal Access > Voice Over is OFF |

System Preferences > Accounts > Click the lock to make changes > Type in your password > Click Login Options> Uncheck Use Voiceover at login window.
That should do the trick! _________________ 2.4GHz MacBook Pro/4GB/320GB HD

I didn't realize that option was there in the Accounts settings. Learn something new everyday! _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)
