Daystar Technology today announced new features for its XtraView USB, a device that enables Macs to connect to analog video sources using USB 2.0. According to the company, "Since its introduction last year, this simple USB 2.0 device has provided, easy to use, plug and play video on the Mac. Now, with its new features and price, XtraView USB is fully Mac Universal, supports over 30 third-party add-ons and is able to work as a high-performance security system, TV viewer / recorder, video digitizer or game console monitor." The XtraView USB is priced at $89.

| can this thing output an analog signal via usb or is it device into the mini only? for example could i run a video stream off my mac screen to my tv? Can someone help me figure out a solution for my woes? I'd like to stream videos from say daily motion or joost onto my TV. My tv is about 20ft away from my mini. What would my options be and preferably cheap. Am I going to have to just suck it up and build a media pc and put it next to my TV. The AppleTV seems too limited because I want the streams from multiple sources to be on my TV instead of my mac screen etc.. Thanks |

AFAIK these devices are input devices. If you want a cheap way to connect your Mac mini to your TV, you can use a DVI to Video Adapter, US$20. Not sure if 20ft is too long for a video cable, better get a good shielded cable.
Of course you lose the main computer screen in the process, so you might as well move the Mac mini near your television.
If you are looking for a way to get a second video output on the Mac mini, the only device that I know of is those Matrox boxes. The DualHead2Go Digital Edition supports Mac OS X 10.4 but is priced at US$229.00. And looking at the specs it seems it only supports VGA displays, not televisions. |

| i wanted an eyeTV but I think they're far more expensive than these. I forsee myself getting one of these then, because I want TV in my bedroom, but I don't want/can't afford/don't have space for a TV. Great! |

EDIT: maybe I have. They do a very similar product with a very simliar name that allows you to connect an aerial, I think |

DUMB question, what software is used for capturing, and what formats will it save to? |

It comes with XtraView capture for OS X, XtraView QuickTime Exporter and Arcsoft VideoImpression 2.0. You may want to look at this page for a list of compatible apps. I don't know if you missed it.

The QuickTime Exporter should be enough for me. 
I might buy one these for connecting up my Wii. Does anyone know of a cheaper solution? |

Hi all, noooooob here. 
I was reading up on this product and would like to confirm that the ProView requires and addition sound input card. However, the XtraView products directs audio input via the USB2.0 cable. That's what's cool here. Also, the XtraView product has been lowered to $89.00 on their website.

This product seems perfect for transferring tape to DVD on the PPC MacMini. I just wish it came with software. Although, using QT is probably ok for RAW and the input can be redirect to other editing software.
What do you all think would be the best editing software? I.E., fades, transitions, loops, combining captures, etc...
One other question; does the interface cable support both analog and digital input?
