Has anyone ever painted their iPod?
I'm strongly thinking of painting my iPod mini black and I was wondering if any of you had any experience in painting iPods so that I could get some tips.
At the same time I'm giving it an 8GB card, replacing the top and bottom bevels, the scroll wheel and the battery!

My plan of action is to do the best I can at sanding it down, with about 280 wet grit paper. I'm going to try inside but I'm not sure this will work...
Then give it a couple of coats from a spray can. Let it dry for 2 days, spray it again. And that's about it. I may get some adhesive paper and cut out the apple in it, and then spray that on through the template doing a few coats.

What do you think? I'll post a guide when done (if I remember to take pictures).

Sounds like a fun project. What type of paint are you going to use? I think a plastic bond enamel is going to be needed or the paint is going to scratch off easily. You may even need some sord of plasitc bond primer.

many people paint the white ones(non mini). the ones with the acrylic cases I mean. other than that I have never heard or painted a mini.

Im actually not sure it will work since the mini's color is annodized onto the metal itself. I dont think it will stick

Yeah it's a mini. I'm going to sand it first, then spray paint it with black, though I'm not sure what kind yet because, honestly, I don't know much about paint. With the anodised thing, it's worked for other people, basically you scratch the anodised thing off a bit to give the paint something to grip onto. It will work!!

I haven't seen many people paint either really.
My plans for upgrading the hard drive to 8GB have gone down the drain because the cards are ridiculously expensive.

you cant scratch off just the paint because technically there isnt any paint on the mini. Its "fused" for a lack of a better word on the metal. so what you are really doing is sanding off metal. That will be hard and take a long time with your hands so I suggest some type of drill with a sandpaper attachment.

Oh sorry, you know more than I do haha! Well I don't have a drill like that so I'm going for the hard work. What would sand-blasting do? Coz oddly enough, I have a sandblaster.

Hmm, is it likely to clear of the anodising?

paint it with Montana
graff paint sticks to anything, and it comes in wicked colours

don't do black, black is lame
if you're gonna paint it, go nuts
