Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.4.9 and iPhoto 6.0.6

Apple today released the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Update via Mac OS X's Software Update utility and on the Web. According to the company, the 10.4.9 Update is recommended for PowerPC and Intel-based Mac computers currently running Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.8 and includes general operating system fixes, as well as specific fixes or compatibility updates for the following applications and technologies:
- RAW camera support
- Handling of large or malformed images that could cause crashes
- Image capture performance
- Mouse scrolling and keyboard shortcuts
- Font handling
- Playback quality, and bookmarks in DVD Player
- USB video conferencing cameras for use with iChat
- Bluetooth devices
- Browsing AFP servers
- Apple USB Modem
- Windows-created digital certificates
- Open and Print dialogs in applications that use Rosetta on Intel-based Macs
- Time zone and daylight saving for 2006 and 2007
- Security updates
Apple has also released the iPhoto 6.0.6 Update. According to the company, this update addresses issues associated with EXIF data compatibility and Photocasting.

| 10.4.9, we seem to be getting to the end of Tiger. Does this mean Leopard is right around the corner? |

I would assume that means the end of the external iSights for good.

Many people have noticed that Panther was released 21 days after the 10.2.9 update and that Tiger was released a short 14 days after the 10.3.9 update....
Looks like Leopard is getting ready to pounce (corny, I know)

Definitely. Hopefully this will encourage companies that make webcams to offer drivers for OS X. I'm just happy that I bought an iSight before Apple discontinued them.

Doubtful. The nature of the numbering scheme is 10.4.x So we can have 10.4.9 or 10.4.999 or, well you get the idea..

Don't ask me why, but for some reason Word and Excel are launching a lot slower for me now.
Other than that, everything seems fine. |

Everything worked fine during install. No problems unlike the last security update. It hasn't made any effect on Shapeshifter, usually 10.4.x increments have some sort of issue, but not this time.

I agree. Apple likely wants to make those who decide to run Tiger happy and those who want to run Leopard even happier  The .9 could be coincidence or planning. Who knows (other than Apple)? |

Well the long wait will soon be over, Leopard should be around the corner quite soon now. So how long do you think it'll be? Within this month or the beginning of April?
