The only thing I ever used Safari for was to download Firefox... |
i second that statement...sometimes safari opens up when i click on a link from my mac for help or something...i quickly close it |
You can fix that if you like...
All you have to do is run Safari, go to preferences, and choose your default browser in there. Then it will always open Firefox or whatever you want instead of Safari.
EDIT: ooops, someone beat me to it... hehe _________________ Mac Mini 1.42GHz

FYI... There is another Airport update (Airport 4.2) that came out today (after Tiger 10.4.2) I'm not sure what it fixed, because Apple has not put a reference to it on their support site yet.
This does include new firmware for the access point. _________________ Mac Pro Quad 2.66GHz, PowerMac G5 2.3 GHz, iMac Core Duo 17", MacBook Pro 2GHz, MacBook Pro 2.2GHz, Mac mini Core 2 Duo 1.83GHz. Multi-K9 Security System. No false alarms, just lots of sharp teeth.

You can run third party widgets in Panther with Amnesty.

I can also just view them in Safari, but that's besides the point. I want that extra Expose layer along with all of the upgrades that Tiger brings. I especially want the increased framerate that 10.4.2 brings, though I don't know if that increase is just from 10.4.* to 10.4.2 or from Panther to 10.4.2 as well. _________________ Computer Engineer

One symbol: $
I was 3 days late for the Up-To-Date program for the Mini, mine didn't come with the upgrade DVD, I'd like the real install disc anyways, and I don't have $69 right now for the education version.

Susurrus,
You can download Konfabulator for free and run widgets. Go to www.konfabulator.com and get the OS X version. They have a bunch of third party widgets on their site too. Rumor has it that Apple stole the whole idea from them, actually.
Regarding updates, everyone. As someone with lots of experience in this (be thankful you never had to deal with the notorious 10.2.8 update) I always wait at least a week and check out the Apple discussion boards thoroughly for complaints before downloading a new update. The reality is, XBench scores don't matter - the stability of your computer does. These updates aren't like Microsoft's critical security patches - they can wait a week. _________________ The Seduction of the Extraordinary at the Expense of the Mundane..

I have Konfabulator for my PC, but I never really fell in love with it. The things widgets can do for Konfabulator is also greatly limited compared to those that use Dashboard. I'm not really desperate for widgets, so I'm in no hurry, but I would like to try them out. I've already done that for Konfabulator and I decided I wanted to move on. This is a good option for anyone who doesn't have Tiger but wants some to add some widgetness to their life.
Also, Apple never stole the idea of a small application that doesn't actually run by itself from Konfabulator. Back in System 1 I think it was, Apple had Desk Accessories. These were effectively the exact same as Konfabulator's Widgets, they just weren't based off of Javascript or MLs. Konfabulator was merely the first product that enabled the use of easily created small applications.

There are many other debates on this topic. There was a great one that was several pages long that talked about this issue, but I don't think I'll be able to find it.

I agree. Not only have I been waiting for money for Tiger, I was also waiting for Tiger to mature so that any issues that I may have would be reduced. I would recommend this option for people who rely on a lot of hardware and software or that hardware and software is mission critical. _________________ Computer Engineer
